No lid cup

At what age do you move LO to a regular cup and no more sippy's?

Re: No lid cup

  • When she moved to the 2 year class at DC. They started using small cups with no lids. At home she drinks from both, straw sippys and cups. I don't fill it up though, just a little under half. But definitely no more spout sippys...I gladly got rid of them as soon as I could.

  • We've let DD1 drink from our regular cups/water bottles since she was around a year, but just started introducing using a regular cup herself in the last month or so. She does okay with it, but I still only put water in it since she always spills some.

  • I would say about 3 months after DD turned 2 she started showing interest in using cups w/o lids. Now at dinner I put a sippy out for her as well as a small cup of water. She will also use a regular cup to get a drink after brushing her teeth.

  • a little after she turned 2.  She will still get a straw or other lidded cup if going on long rides.  At home she is no longer allowed to take her cup with her, which took her a while to get used to, but I didn't want it getting all over the place.  I would say within a couple months she has gotten really good at not spilling.  Noe if I can just keep her from sticking her hands in her cup, we're good.

Right? Mine does that occasionally...as if to wash her hands when done. Grr.

  • We have just started letting DD have water in a regular cup.  She took DH's glass of juice the other day when we weren't looking.  When I came out in the living room she was doing a good job at drinking from it so I've let her use them at the kitchen table since.  She does like to put her hands and utensils in it though.

  • DC enforces no sippy cups at 18 mo. We eliminated it entirely from home too at the age of 2.

  • at 14 months my daughter drank out of a lidless cup fine. At about 20 months she was a pro 'trying' to drink one handed haha. She now is attempting to walk while drinking (which I usually stop her but she is actually pretty good at it) Now she can get her own cup and fill it without overflowing it that makes me happy!

  • yeah i've tried here and there and quickly reverted back to the sippy (straw). but the past month i've been reintroducing lid-less cups: A SHOT GLASS! it give her practice with a lidless cup, but if/when it spills it's no big deal. i think i'll move to a bigger cup next week.

  • Our DC also introduced it in the 18 month room so we started using them at meals at home shortly after that & got rid of all sippies at meals by age 2. They started w/ the little 2 oz or whatever cups at daycare, I ended up just getting the ikea kids cups (we have the bowls & plates too) and I only fill them about 1/3 to 1/2 full.   However, I still take water in straw cups when we're on the go anywhere. My kids never really liked sippies or drinking milk out of anything but an open cup anyway though, and I never really gave them milk to just have around the house and when playing or whatever so the mess factor was never an issue.

(and my kids still stick their hands in it all the time too, I take it away if they do that and then they'll stop. kids will be kids I guess.)
