NICU Consult Question

Hi ladies,

I posted this in the 0-3 month board as well but didn't get very many responses. We're hoping to make it to full term but we have a NICU consult tomorrow because our little girl might be born with a heart issue whether or not we make it to term. Just wondering if you have any advice for questions to ask, things you wished you had known before?

TIA - sorry I know it's not completely relevant to this board because she won't be super early either way but I figured you guys would have the most experience with the NICU.

    Hmm...well this is a tough question.  Things I wish I would've known before...nothing, because I didn't expect to end up there.  For someone who is prepared to end up in NICU, I guess I would just ask about their visitor policy, whether or not you can room in, calling in for updates if you plan to leave, what their breast milk labeling protocol is.  That's all I can think of.

    I'd ask about their policies/procedures. Who will attend the delivery? Can they show the baby to you on the way to the NICU if stable? Visiting hours?

    Stuff like that... it will help you know a little more what to expect in the first days. Good luck! Hoping your little one sails through!
