donating BM

Just found out DS has a milk allergy, so all the BM I've been freezing can't be used. Sucks. Anyways, I was hoping to donate it to the milk bank. Do you think they'll take it if I wasn't pre-screened? I have no idea how it works, but I'd hate to toss it.

    A friend of mine is donating to the milk bank of ohio.  She needed to be screened in order to donate it.  I would google it and see what info you can find.

    I think the milk you donate has to be pumped after to you are prescreened....but you should check that out!  What a wonderful gift that would be for someone!

    You do NOT have to be prescreened for the bank I donate to (Mother's Milk Bank of San Jose).  You fill out a bunch of forms, including ones signed by your OB and you DC's pedi, and then send them back and then they order and pay for any testing you need.  I donated 5 gallons of milk pumped prior to screening.

    I just completed a private donation today!  If it doesn't work out w/ the bank, contact a local LC.  I had a similar issue (T is allergic to wheat).  My LC put me in touch with a couple who just adopted a baby and I was able to give them all my milk.  They were very appreciative and I feel good knowing that all that milk I worked so hard for is being put to good use.

    email mothers milk bank of ohio.  i live in ri, but it was the closest place.  i had a freezer full at the nicu and a freezer full at home that was about to outdate.  they will take milk that you pumped before you are screened.  they will do a 5 min phone interview, send you a few page written interview to mail back (has the forms that they send for you dr and baby's dr to complete) and then they will send you vials to get your blood drawn and a collection box, all postage prepaid.  very easy and super worthwhile.
