I need to get serious about a budget for our family. Especially if we ever want to buy a house or make head-way with my student loans. Last night DH and I sat down and made a spreadsheet. Below is a list of our monthly budgeted items. Can you think of other common expenses that I haven't included? What does your monthly budget look like?
Rent Student Loans Electric Utility Water Utility Child Care Groceries Gas Parking Cell Phone Cable Internet ?Car Payment? Local Taxes Allowance for me, DH, and V Pet supplies and vet bills Vacation Fund Gifts Home Maintenance House Down Payment Fund Dining Out Miscellaneous I know I could go to MM for this, but I figured I would ask my faves first.
Re: Budgets (longish)
A few things we have that arent on your list:
Insurance (health, home, car)
TV? Didn't know if you don't have any or if its included w/internet
Car Maintenence (oil changes, etc)
Retirement
Tithe/offerings
Good call on the tithing. We can actually set up an auto payment with our church, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Insurance is on my budget, but I missed it when I was typing the post. Car maintenance is "car payment." We don't actually have a car payment, but we continue to set it aside as if we are paying one. And...no cable TV in our house = best decision we ever made :-)
Other savings, like college fund, etc?
Would clothing be under your allowance?
Medical/dental expenses?
I think with what others have posted covers it. Our budget is way shorter than yours but granted we don't have a ton of bills and we also don't have a ton of money.
Here is ours.
Rent
Cell
Car Insurance (Health is through DH job)
Internet (Cable is included in our community)
Taxes (DH has back taxes)
Electric (Water is included in our Rent)
Groceries
Savings (Birthday, Christmas, and Emergency fund)
Spending Money (This includes clothing, activities, etc...)
Coupon Fund (I have a certain amount of money I keep for my couponing to stockpile)
My mom actually started a college fund for DS and pays on that for us. It's sort of her gift to us and our DS.
That's it for us.
Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
Right now DS's allowance is his college fund. I don't know if I will ever give him a real allowance, it might forever go to his college fund.
We don't buy much clothing for ourselves. I usually use money I get for Christmas and birthdays to buy myself stuff. DH needs some new clothes desperately. I might have to make some adjustments to make a "threads" budget.
Our medical/dental expenses come out of our FSA which is taken out before we calculate our income.
