I was a scheduled c-section both times and had the GBS test both times. I did NOT have internals the first pregnancy. I changed doctors with this pregnancy and she does do internals. I tested positive for GBS and the doctor told me that they would only have to do anti-biotics if my water broke before the c-section at 39 weeks.
We're planning a RCS and I was swabbed for GBS at 36 weeks. I tested GBS + with my 1st, and lo and behold, + with this one. It's good to know if you go into labor before the RCS happens. That way they can get the antibiotics on board in the event your water breaks.
I plan on opting out of internal exams unless my OB absolutely insists. I don't plan on delivering vaginally and really, the information seems so... unhelpful. Is that a word? Interesting but unhelpful. Seems like you can be 3 cms for weeks or 1 cm and go into labor the next day. My sister had an internal exam at her 36th week appt. and went into labor the same day. She obviously has no proof but feels that the exam contributed to the early delivery. My niece spent 2 weeks in the NICU for underdeveloped lungs. If the info doesn't really help and might hurt, why rock the boat is my attitude.
I am scheduled for 04/30. I honestly didn't think they would test me but at my last appt they did and it is positive. I emailed the nurse since I was not sure what this meant and she said if my water broke I would need the meds even with the csection since that protection would be gone. Otherwise, nothing else will be done.
As fars as internals, I declined them. She did offer to do one though.
Thanks Ladies. I hadn't thought about my water breaking, so it makes sense that I would need to be tested for it. Great to know about declining internals.
I had the swab even with a scheduled c-section. I questioned if it was needed and they said yes in case I went into labor before the scheduled time the hospital wanted the results in my records.

I had GBS screen and one internal. Also had one internal at the hospital since my water broke prior to RCS, so they wanted to make sure they had time to set things up as my contractions were close together and came on quick.
I had it done. They mostly do it because sometimes it can cause problems with the baby. Not usually with a repeat c section it won't cause problems it's usually if your ruptured without antibiotics but not usually. I have no idea if every dr does the swab or not
