Tanning help (NBR)

Hey ladies.... I am in a wedding coming up in July and the dress color is deffinately going to need a tan (lime green). Any suggestions on when I start tanning. I tan pretty easy but won't have time to tan outside!  Thanks!

  • Um.  How about not.  If you really feel you must have color, then do a spray tan.  Otherwise, you are just being stupid.

  • I'd do a spray tan.  And if you are going to spray tan, make sure you do a trial first to see how it looks on you.  You don't want to be orange at the wedding.

  • Please, please, please don't go to a tanning bed or intentionally tan out in the sun!

Definalty go for a spray tan. Give it a try at least once beforehand. You will be able to see how it's going to look but also how it washes away. When I've gotten it done, I like it best after 2 showers so I make sure to get it two days before the event I want it for.

this!!! stay sun smart and get a spray tan 4 or 5 days before to allow the colour to look more natural!

  • I use a tanning bed (flame away, I don't care.)

I tan very easily and can get good color in 4 weeks going about 3 times a week.

When starting back up I usually do 8 min twice, 10 min twice, 12 min twice, 15 min twice, 17 min twice then I'm good to do the 20.

  • I suggest an air brush tan. Most salons will do them for about $45-$50. Totally worth it with no streaking or orangy look.

I won't flame, to each their own, but aren't you worried about the long term damage you are doing to your skin cells or the messages you are sending to your daughter, would you let her do it when she is older?

  • I would either get a spray tan or use self tanner.  I really like the Loreal sublime bronze gel ( I think that is the exact name).

  • Another spray tan vote.
  • I had a spray tan for my wedding and got lots of compliments.

After having a pre-cancerous mole removed at the age of 21, I'm not taking any chances.

I don't think it's sending her any message. If she wants to do it after she turns 18 then that's her decision but I think by the time that comes around beds won't be common.

I also suggest self tanner or spray tan. I used to tan when I was younger at  a tanning salon but don't feel comfortable using them anymore...I totally don't judge if you use one...most of my friends tan regularly.

I do feel better with color but as someone with fair skin have been skeered to use a self tanner or get a spray tan...glad to see a recommendation for this one b/c I just bought it today at Target!

When I do tan this is also how I do it.  I tan just for special occasions and have never seen a good spray ran so I won't do one myself.  My mom has an Rx to tan so I do believe there are safe tanning options. But that's just my opinion...

  • Not to completely side track, but I've always wondered what's in a spray tan. Couldn't that be cancer causing as well? Tons of carcinogenic ingredients are in cosmetics, so I've always been skeptical that spray tanning is a safer alternative. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear!

That being said, I think tanning 3 times a week sounds dangerous. I have used tanning beds, but rarely, and usually in the winter. I think if you are good about using sunscreen otherwise, going once (for a short amount of time) before an event would be NBD. Personally, I wouldn't tan repeatedly or close together. If I were you, I might go once mid-late June and then once a week or so before the wedding.

It's a tricky thing to do, considering the risks. Too bad you don't have time to slap on some sunscreen and hang out at the lakes or the zoo!

Or dying of melanoma? Leaving your daughter without a mother bc of something preventable?

  • Personally I'm a fan of a little natural sunlight here and there.  I tan very easily too.  I usually use a low SPF if I am trying to get a little color.  If I know I'll be outside a lot I will use more protection.

But I guess you said you don't have time to be outside, so I'll vote with the other ladies and say spray tan.  My friend got one before a wedding in February and it looked so natural...they have really come a long way from being orange.

  • I have to tan if i plan on spending anytime outdoors. Even with an SPF of 50 I will burn in 15 minutes. My doctor and i have talked about it at length and determined that the 3 mins of exposure 2 days a week is better than burning with blisters and all. I would get two to three serious burns a season before I started tanning. I never go anywhere near the max amount and I only. Do it for a short period of time to avoid getting nasty burns.  With a base I am able to wear SPF 40 and reapply every hour to avoid burning.

  • As a fair-skinned maiden who was just in a wedding herself, I vote going au natural and letting your lightness shine! lol

But of course, you didn't ask for opinions on whether or not to tan. Now did you? lol Stick out tongue
