TTC After a Loss

HSG tomorrow-question

Good morning ladies!

I have my HSG scheduled for 9 am tomorrow morning... ugh :-/.  How did you feel the rest of the day after your HSG was done?  My best friend from college will be in town and we'll walking around downtown and just was just wondering how I might be feeling.

 Thanks.

I've had 2 - the first one, I took the afternoon off, the 2nd, I went back to work. For me, it was a little uncomfortable during the HSG, but I was fine after.

    Good luck!

  • GL tomorrow!  I had it done last September and the procedure was a little uncomfortable.  I took the afternoon off work but wouldn't have needed to.

Be sure to take 800mg of ibuprofin about 60-45 minutes before.  That will help.  Also, bring pads because there will be leakage.  I wore a pad for 2 days following.

It takes about 10 minutes.  It's pretty quick, but if you have a blockage, may be more painful for you.  You should be fine to spend time with your friend.

    Hope that helps!

  • I had mine a few months ago, and it really wasn't that bad. Like others have said it was just a bit uncomfortable during the procedure but I took the Ibprophene before and it was quick. For me I was physically fine after but I was emotionally drained, mostly because the results were normal. I know that seems strange, you'd think I'd be relieved, but I guess I thought that if there was a blockage we could clear it and I'd be able to get pg again. I'm sure you'll be fine tho, enjoy your friend!
  • I had one done a few months ago and since I didn't know what to expect I took the day off from work. I honestly could have gone to work after but was glad to be able to realx at home. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It felt like strong AF cramping. One of my sides was a little more difficult but still not unbearable. Like other people have said make sure to take ibuprofen piror.

    Good luck!

  • I had an HSG in January, it was only really painful during the procedure, I felt fine the next day. Good Luck!
  • I had my HSG done yesterday and it wasn't too bad.  I took the 800 mg of Ibuporpen before and it wasn't too painful just mostly a little uncomfortable.  I went to work right after and had no problems.  I have heard though that if your tubes are closed that it could be more painfull.  Good luck tomorrow!
  • I had an HSG done the end of Feb and it really wasn't bad at all. I did take ibuprofen prior to it which could be why it didn't bother me. It was a bit uncomfortable during the process but afterwards I felt perfectly fine. Did wear a pad the rest of the day due to having some leakage.... BTW they say you're more fertile up to 3 months after an HSG, I've heard that some doctors actually will use that as a fertility treatment. I got pregnant the month of my HSG (after trying for 2 1/2 years) so I strongly believe that was what helped us finally get a BFP. I had no blockage in my tubes, but when the dye goes through them they said it can clear a nice path.

  • I had mine a week ago today. It's not as bad as you anticipate. I took two Advil before and two after. I used a pad afterward but only really needed it for the first two hours, if that. I bled a little on the table but that was the worst of it and I only had dye on the pad. It was so little that I needed nothing later and actually was clear for sex that night.

The actual procedure was more scary than anything. It was like a wave of pain that was mild discomfort, peaked and very quickly declined. The catheter feels like a uti. The peak was only a few seconds long and was when they insert the dye.I don't know I'd you've had contractions before but I thought the contractions in my miscarriage were far worse. DH held my hand the whole time and that made it better.

You should be fine physically to hang out with your friend. Afterwards, I've had period cramping that has been worse. It's crampy but more than likely you've already experienced worse. The whole day made me tired and I ended up taking a nap later though.

Good luck! It's all worth it!
