Re: CPW: Name for your LO

  • We named all 3 of our babies and I took the time to look over a ton of gender neutral names to choose ones that had good meanings. It makes it seem more real to me for them to have names. They were my babies and they existed.

We named our boy after his grandfathers. My dad and FIL were really touched. My MIL got upset because now we won't name the next one after FIL and we "wasted" the name. I don't like her very much anymore.

This is terrible. I hate her too.

  • We do not.  I had a natural m/c and was unable to find out the gender. Had we known the gender, we would have named our baby.

Oh dear God!  That is a terrible woman!

    Answer to the question:

I named my baby Ruby.  It made me feel closer to my baby to get to do that.  Sometimes though, I do imagine a little boy spirit in Heaven, named Ruby.  But then I think, "No one gets teased in Heaven.  It works."

Yeah, the woman is kind of nuts and self absorbed.

I love the name Ruby, for girl or boy and I like the idea of no one getting teased in Heaven. (Bad joke alert) It's a "no flame" zone.

    (Okay, I quit now.)

    I did giggle though...

  • DH and I had some names that we liked, but decided that we would not seriously discuss names until after the AS scan (when we knew the gender).  Unfortunately we found out that we lost our LO at our AS scan.  We did not know the gender until he was born.  We decided not to use names that we had discussed, since we never referred to our son by any of them.  Instead we named him after DH and FIL.  If it was a girl, she would have been named after me.

UGH!!!  This.  Just because your son is an angel does not mean that the name has any less meaning!  She should feel blessed that your thought of using those names.

  • I have a name in my head & heart that I refer to for my first one. I've only ever shared it with my mother as it's her middle name.

My second loss I didn't name, but it was an early and very different type loss for me.

I just named Bunny recently. I named her after the baby bunny that hopped on to our patio, which I believe is a reincarnation of our angel baby. Naming her was certainly a healing experience.

  • My first angel baby we named. It felt very important to me to do this because I got tired of him being referred to as "Gavin's twin". He was his own person and deserved an identity separate from his brother. We named him Casey as it was a gender neutral name before pathology confirmed it was a boy.

My 2nd angel baby we didn't name. It was an earlier loss and like a pp said, it was a different situation.

It makes me feel irrationally guilty that we named our first loss but not the second, though.

Ugh! Add another one to the not liking your MIL list!

To everyone else, this is interesting. I'm the only one in my IRL support group who doesn't have a "name-name" for their baby (although many were later losses). But I feel like the nickname suits him (or her, but I think he's a boy), and that's what we call him. Thanks for clicky-ing!
