? about PIO vs. Suppositories - Need advice

I have a history of low P4 7dpo with my 3 IUIs (3.2, 5.4, 17) .

I have since switched REs.  With this IVF cycle, my RE has prescribed Crinone 2x/day.

After my ET today, my acupuncturist suggested I call my RE and request PIO rather than suppositories considering my history of low P4.

My question for you ladies is, do you know if PIO has been proven to be any more effective than suppositories?  I vaguely remember my RE saying at my IVF consult that one is not more effective than the other and that PIO is just the traditional (and at one time the only) method.  What would you do?

I know I need to advocate for myself,  but I also hate to doubt my RE.

Re: ? about PIO vs. Suppositories - Need advice

  • If you do the PIO, it will show up if your blood and your levels can be monitored. I think that's really the only benefit. With supps, you won't really know if you are on the correct dosage, but they are still effective.

  • If anything, I think crinone has been shown to be more effective.  You just can't see it in blood work like you can PIO.  That being said, it doesn't hurt to have a chat with your doctor to ease your mind.

This, but the one study that showed this used a very low dose of PIO (25 mg) vs Crinone once daily. Two other studies looking at PIO 50mg or 100mg vs Crinone once daily showed they were equally efficacious.
