as long as it's not WAAAAAY too far off from the original thing then no it doesn't bother me..
but like in the show vampire diaries, despite how hot the guys are I CAN'T watch it because it pisses me off how much they changed it from the book.. they added characters, took away characters and it just fustrates me cause I'm like THAT'S NOT HOW IT WAS IN THE BOOK!! lol
But the Hunger Games for example.. while there were subtle details left out, it didn't bother me that much. I thought it was a great movie that stayed pretty true to the book.

The whole concept behind Hunger Games just doesn't sit well with me. My co-worker actually had no clue what it was about until she took her daughter to the movie (with the rest of her class) because they are reading the book in school. She was horrified that a book like that would be in the school system, let alone to 6th graders.

Some of my favorite movies were from books... as far as creative licenses, it totally depends... there are some that i think make it better, like PS I love you... i thought the movie was 100 times better than the book... Jurrasic Park & Lost World, they kind of switched the beginnings around... i think the beginnings work better the way they did it in the movies than the books... Most Stephen King novels to movies are really good adaptations... Silence of the Lambs - great book to movie, the others in the series not so much... Something Borrowed was good too...
I cant think of anything right now that i really didnt like...

Yeah I totally don't see 6th graders reading it.
I enjoyed it but I guess because I can tell that it's a make believe futuristic thing, that will more than likely never happen. To me it was like the adult version of The Giver (which when I read in 6th grade I thought some things were horrifying)

I hated the movies for The Help & My Sister's Keeper.
The way they handled "The Help" really bothered me too ... They changed so much stuff, and it just kind of irritated me watching it. It really was a good book, and the movie didn't do it justice in my eyes.

I didnt see My sisters keeper (read the book tho), i enjoyed the help... but for the most part just found the book to be much better than the movie... which is usually the case.

My Sisters Keeper made me extremely angry! How could they change the ending? I mean come on Jodi Piccoult always has twists in her books and they sell like crazy why did they have to change it for the movie?

Definitely! With My Sisters Keeper I literally said "WTF" out loud. I mean, it's not like they slightly modified a character. They literally changed the ENTIRE ending and the whole point of the movie. Just really irked me.

Sometimes when they stay too true the book, I feel like I wouldn't be able to follow along with the plot without having read the book first. "snow falling in cedars" comes to mind .... And maybe the Time Traveler's Wife. But them I read the book first for both so maybe my interpretations are skewed.

I loved both The Help and The Hunger Games as books, and I actually really liked both of the movies as well.
The Help- I thought it was a good movie, but I couldn't really think of the book as I watched it. The Book was by far a ton better.
The Hunger Games- The movie was good and really close to the plot of the book, but I felt like I wouldn't have understood the movie as much if I hadn't read the books.
I usually don't like it when they change too much from the book to the movie, however one exception for me was Twilight. I read the book and hated it, but I really liked the movie. I didn't read any of the other books but have seen the movies and enjoyed them.

Jaws - there was actually a lot of creative license taken with the movie, but i think it worked really well. Obviously, i wasnt alive when the book & movie came out. I happened to see the movie first and its also my favorite movie of all time, so i may be biased. And its actually a pretty big part that was changed.
