I have a friend who is selling her Medela breast pump for $80. This sounds incredibly tempting, considering how expensive they are new. But I'm concerned about it being safe/sanitary.
I've found a couple of websites that say that the Medela pumps are hospital grade pumps, and operate on a closed system, meaning that the parts that come in contact with the milk and body parts are replaceable, and that they are safe for multiple users.
Have any of you considered buying a used pump? Would you?
Re: Should I buy a used breast pump?
I would if I knew the person and then I would order all new replacement parts.
Most people would tell you not to...
If it's a friend, I would and just buy new parts.
That said, find out if she's having more kids and will want it back or anything random. I wouldn't want to be responsible for it if anything happened.
This. But I guess since she is selling it and not lending it, she wouldn't expect it back. I had someone offer to lend me theirs, and I would have gotten replacement parts, but I am just going to get my own. We've been saved up a little extra money specifically for the pump.

I did. I bought entirely new pumping parts though. I have no regrets. It turns out that the person I bought it was a friend of my husbands. Somehow that made me feel better about it.
For the milk to get all the way to the air compressor..... it'd be pretty amazing. Those tubes are pretty long.
