Of 77 samples
tested, only one was found to have melamine, said Leon, who
declined to identify the product.
?There?s no reason for concern because these are trace
levels,? Leon said. ?They?re so incredibly tiny.?
The positive sample turned up as part of an FDA testing
program begun after the chemical was found in Chinese products.
The amount of melamine in the U.S. sample was ?well below? 250
parts per billion, Leon said.
I would still like to know which brand, but I'm not ready to panic yet.

At the risk of starting a flame war, I wonder why it is safe to have "trace amounts" of formaldehyde, mercury and aluminum in vaccines but it's not safe to have "trace amounts" of melamine in formula. Hmmmmm FDA??
It is found in fertilizers and makes its way into grain, thus into the cow. So if the formula has milk protein in it then it can also have melamine. If any grain was purchased from China and then our cows eat them then it ups the chances. If soy plants are fertilzed with anything containing melamine, then that type of formula could have it.
But I don't know, that's just what I gathered from the article from NY Times.

Take a deep breath! It was trace amounts of <250 ppb in 1 out of 77 samples.
Also, my MIL sent me an aricle from the NY Times. Basically, unless you eat and drink organic eggs and milk, you are getting it from your dairy.
The article briefly discusses how much the FDA says is ok and whatnot....

I don't know...the FDA also approved Phen Fen and only recalled it after HUGE uproars.
Basically melamine is used to up protein content and it has to be ADDED. Not cool and not okay in my book. In any amount.
From what I've seen it isn't added- they found trace amounts in 1 of 77 samples while testing for it because it isn't supposed to be in there.
If I'm missing something feel free to link me.
