Pregnant after a Loss

Now I am starting to

Ok so yesterday we had a healthy heart beat and it made me happy, but now I have to wait 4 weeks for our next appointment and u/s. That is causing me to freak out. We haven't had a successsful Pregnancy past 8w. Am I crazy to just call and see if I can at least get blood work at 8w to make sure I am still having high numbers? Of course if I owned a u/s machine I would get one at 8w weeks too so I could have some sanity. I don't know if I can wait to 10w?

What would you do?

  • Numbers may not be very helpful at that point as they can be high regardless of whether LO is healthy or not.

If I were you I would ask if you could have an elective at 8 weeks to check.  I'm sure you're not the first to ask for extra u/s after a loss.  Just tell them your anxiety levels are high and you really need the reassurance.

If it makes you feel any better it's taken me 4 losses to be able to get more frequent u/s.  And they're still making me wait until 7 weeks for my first.  If I had the money I would buy my own u/s.

  • I was already thinking about this lol. My u/s appt is May 3rd  (6w, 3d) and I know they are probably going to want me to wait until my NT scan at 12 weeks for another u/s. I plan on straight up asking them during my first u/s to schedule one for a few weeks later.  They gave me two early u/s during my last one because I asked so thats the plan.

  • Thank You Ladies. I will call and schedule it. I really don't care if my insurance decides to cover it or not. I guess a piece of mind knowing my LO is growing ok is worth it.

I'm going to win the lotto and open up a practice that caters to women with Losses. If they decide they want to see their LO just to make sure everything is ok I would do it free of charge. : ) Here is me Dreaming right here.

This. Your doc should be able to accommodate it, just for peace of mind and they can write it off as medical necessity because of patient history maybe? My high-risk doc totally gets the PgAL mentality, and so she was like "Not to worry, you'll be getting plenty of u/s and check-ups, and I know you're probably on tenterhooks because of the losses." Most docs get the anxiety that goes along with being PgAL, and I'm hoping they'll take extra care of you and LO, even if it's just a peace-of-mind checkup!

She has been pretty accomadating so I am hoping she understands why I am asking for this. Plus seeing your LO is always a great thing right?
