TTC After a Loss

Would this piss you off? (Work Vent)

Alright I work in parts at my parent's auto repair shop. Well there is a rebate program with one of the dealers that I deal with. ($15 for every factory part you use rather than an aftermarket part) I have been putting these in to get a rebate back from them, I often do this after hours as I don't have time to do it during business hours. Well we just got back a rebate of $630.. is it wrong of me to think I should get some of that because I put in the man hours, of my free time, to put these in for the business?

The last rebate I got none back either. It kinda makes me stabby and not want to put them in the computer anymore..

  • I understand where you are coming from, but I think it depends on if it is part of your job description.  I too would feel that I deserved some of it, especially if I were to put in my own time working on it.

  • Thats hard b/c its family. If it wasn't family I would just tell the company I wasn't going to do the rebates anymore. And then dont. You wont get any money, but neither will they. Being that its family, makes it a lot harder b/c I'm sure even though you aren't getting anything from it, you still want to help them. Maybe just dont do it for 1 month. That way they can see who much your extra time and work is getting them. Explain that you cant do this while working b/c you're busy so you do it in your extra time, and feel you should get a little something back from all your hard work since they are getting something for it.

Hope you and the family get it worked out and that they decide to cut you in on their profit

  • If you weren't paid while doing it, I'd ask for payment.

I wouldn't expect a percentage of the savings.  Just as our R&D engineers don't expect a portion of the savings if they can swap out a material that will save the company money (like millions, here).  That's what we pay them for.

Ultimately, that $630 is going to the benefit of the company - which keeps us employed.  If my company isn't doing well, I most likely don't have a job, KWIM?  But, I would definitely request to be paid for the time I spent entering the info into the computer.

After 22 months TTC and the loss of our identical twins at 10w6d, we're excited about our rainbow baby!

I get what your saying.. but that money isn't going back into the business, it's going to be used on their next trip or whatever they want to do with it (It's a fmaily run business so really, they are the business KWIM?) And it takes me hours to do these things every month and no I don't get paid for it, like overtime or anything. I don't have to do them, but I do because if I don't I never hear the end of it... Guess I should just bite my tongue and let it go, it's not worth a fight.. just sucks cause the envelope comes addressed to me since I send them in and I have to hand it over lol.

If it were me, I would total up the time I spent putting them in and show it to them, and ask for a "bonus percentage" for doing it.

If that did not go over well, then I would only do it during paid work hours.  If that is absolutely not possible then I would give it to them to do.  As the business owners, if they want the rebate then they can spend the time putting it in kwim?

So long answer short, yes, it would peeve me off a bit, especially as the owner/boss is a parent.

I like this. Yes, it work irk me too.

VQ I'm totally on your side, but here's a Devil's Advocate/food for thought kind of question:

How much time does it take to do the rebates? And how much time do you spend Bumping at work?

I'm totally guilty of Bumping at work too. If I have to stay late and hour or two here and there to meet an important deadline, I just kind of write it off as a wash.

haha I usually bump only during breaks but there are a few times when it is slow that I pop up here.. like now for example.. Stick out tongue
