Me and DH are dealing with MFI. He is currently on clomid and supplements - but our main issue is morphlogy (1%). I took 50 mg clomid on IUI #1; 150 mg clomid on IUI #2 - both times only produced 1 dominant egg. DH's count and mortility were really good post wash (90Million; 91% Mortility - however when adding in morphology we are under 1 Million). Now moving onto IUI #3 - doctor wants us to continue w/ 150mg however based on the past 2 cycles I will only get 1 egg - so have been considering injectibles thinking if I can give more targets then might improve our chances. All in all what treatment finally worked for you? Should we just move onto IVF?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Re: Question for those w/ Success and MFI
We were DX both low count and low morph and advised to move right to IVF... which we did and IVF #1 brought us DS ...
I can't speak to IUI, clomid or anything because we skipped it all. Maybe get a second opinion just to see what someone else would recommend? While it felt kind of strange to "fast forward" I was also happy to get right to our best shot at having a baby ...
My husband has 0% morph and borderline count and motility. We've gotten pregnant without medical intervention, with clomid and timed intercourse, with IUI using femara and injectables and with IVF. So, just about every way possible.
Have you considered doing an hybrid cycle, using oral meds (clomid or femara) and adding in just a little bit of injectables? It's cheaper than doing a full-on injectables IUI and might get you an extra follicle without pushing you over into an area where you'd be uncomfortable going forward with the IUI (by having too many follicles).
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

We were low morph, count, and motility. We tried two IUIs with femara before moving on to IVF with ICSI. Good luck to you!
ETA: Oops, forgot to add that our doc was very against IUI with injectibles for me. I responded well to femara, and he was very concerned with the risk of higher order multiples if we were to do injectibles. But, I know this varies greatly person to person (and doctor to doctor).
We were low count, low morph and low motility. My RE basically said she thought we should go straight to IVF. We did some medicated IUIs all BFNs. My second IVF gave us DD and I'm now pregnant with twins from our third fresh IVF.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
My DH has 0% morph, but all other numbers are good. We opted to go straight to IVF with ICSI due to the better success rates and I was getting up there in age. IVF worked the first time and our little boy will be 4 in July.
Good luck!
We had two issues -- my husband has low morph (but great numbers for everything else) and mine is unclear but appears to be egg quality related (can't really be diagnosed but based on how I reacted to IVF, that's what my REs suspect). We did 5 IUIs w/injectibles that were all failed cycles (for various reasons, a few were due to BFNs and most were due to cancelled cycles due to my hormone levels.
When I went for a consult with a new RE practice, they basically said (after looking at my files from my old practice) that they would never recommend IUIs for me given my husband's morph issues. The way my RE explained it was that they can't solve for the morph (or "shape") issue with an IUI and the shape issue is how sperm can inseminate an egg (obviously, I'm overly simplifying). He explained that with IVF and ICSI, they can "solve" for the shape issue by injecting the egg with the sperm. I did 4 IVF cycles (all with ICSI). The first 3 were BFN but my fertilization rates were over 90% so we knew then that MFI was not my only issue and than egg quality was also causing some fertility issues. My last IVF with ICSI was our 4th and only successful cycle. GL!
