Success after IF

Tomorrow is Take your child to work day...

I work for a divisional office of a major retailer (hint red star) , and apparently the main HQ makes TYCTW day a big to do with lots of activities for the kids and their parents. But for our division there isn't anything being done... Boo!

I realize ,obviously ,that CC is way to young to even understand the concept of Mommy's job, but for others who have older children I think this could be so beneficial ...

For so many households working outside the home is the norm and I think it gives kids a look into what Mommy ( and Daddy) does all day as part of how they provide all the necessities like food and shelter but also the fun things like toys and trips.

Does your employer recognize this day?

Do they have any activities to encourage your participation in this day ?

If your employer doesn't recognize this day, would you want them to?

What are your thoughts on the intention of the day ?

  • We do recognize the day and my company actually does a great job of planning a day full of educational and fun activities. My kids are too young as well but I am bringing my niece who is 9. I think it's a great tool for kids to see what goes on in a given day at a place of employment. For my niece, her parents do not work in a professional field, there is nothing wrong with that but since I do I just am greatful for the opportunity to show her what it's like. I am just happy to be able to expose her to something she otherwise wouldn't be. I think it's great. I did love going to work with my parents on occasion but it's even better to have a structured day for the kids.

  • I wish that we could but I work as a probation officer for teenagers and with confidentiality, it's not possible.  DH is a police officer.  He's had college students do ride alongs, but it would be a big no no with a child, lol.  Although our daughter would love it!!  Overall, I think it's a great idea.  My husband has two teenage children and I'd LOVE to show them what sort of adult responsibilites we handle at work.

  • My company doesn't. I'm in a very demanding service industry and I just don't see it really working very well to have a ton of kids around and activities and stuff, mostly because of clients, many of whom wouldn't have the patience for lack of availability due to something like this. I wish we did though, when the kids are older it could be fun. I may bring my kids to work with me if I have to come on a weekend or on a day I know isn't busy when they're older, I went to my mom's office all the time when I was little but never in an offical TYCTWD capacity.

  • my employer does not. heck, they dont recognize much of anything. Also -- there arent many people here with young kids. Actually, I think I am the only one. My boss has recently adopted his granddaughter, so that is 2 kids.

I remember going a lot with my dad -- he worked for the phone company -- he did a lot of work outside and during that time we werent able to go with him but when he tried his hand at a foreman job (think more admin) we would go. It was fun!

there were no structured activities though.
