Anyone's LO have no teeth yet? What to feed?

I saw the post below and wondered how many have no teeth yet. What are other options for food that I can give DD for solid food? I feel like we should be giving her more. She still has usually 2 purees a day and has Cheerios, Graham crackers, bananas. Not a whole lot else. I'm just nervous to give her anything else but I need to since she will be off formula in less than 3 months. Wow that sounds crazy!

  • My little guy doesn't have any teeth yet so I just do the cutting for him. It's amazing how he knows he has to chew longer for meats then say, macaroni. My rule of thumb is feed what you are comfortable with. If you're nervous you'll make the LO nervous and that's something you don't want to show her.  Try spaghetti cut up, I squish peas and other soft veggies, avocados, cheese. Just about anything I eat I give him little pieces to try. Hope this helps.

  • No teeth here, and he turns 1 in 18 days.  He eats whatever we eat.  Babies don't need teeth to chew.  The only teeth in your mouth that you chew with are molars.  Molars don't come in until at least a year (usually a bit later).

All of this.  DS was eating table foods before he had any teeth.

  • I agree, my friend's LO is 2 and he is just getting molars now, so we certainly can't hold off until then... that being said, I am in the same boat and taking it very slowly with food. Go at your own comfort level. Some other things we have had success with are boiled baby carrots (I whether make small pieces for him, or help him hold it if he takes the whole thing-- he's overzealous lol) and he knows to bite off a small piece with the side of his gums. He has had small pieces cut up of other soft cooked veggies, potato, turnips, could do sweet potato, but haven't yet. Going to try avocado soon, and he does bananas too. You can also try scrambled egg yolks (we are not giving whites until 1), but I scramble it up with some BM (could also use formula) just helps the yolks not be so crumbly, he loves it. If you are worried about things being soft, you could always do apples or pears just softened a bit in a pan, and I have also heard great things from girls here about pancakes (haven't tried yet), whether regular, or wholesomebabyfoods has a good recipe with baby cereal if that's more your thing. Here is another link to their page and more info on solids at this age. They seem to be pretty cautious, which for some may be boring, but it suits me fine. May even consider fish if you're not keen on chunks of meat yet, and also pasta, as someone else mentioned. I have also been giving more stage 3 baby foods, they have some decent ones with pasta and rice with meat in them. They also have great ones for 12 months that look pretty yummy if you ask me! ;)

ETA: I went through all that rambling without mentioning, DS has no teeth either.

  • No teeth here.  Aside from really sharp foods like taco shells, DD eats what we eat.
