Non-baby book & TV recommendations!

I am already bored to tears after 3 days of bedrest.

What are you reading?  What TV series should I be catching the box set of?

Any recommendations are appreciated :)

Re: Non-baby book & TV recommendations!

  • I don't watch much TV except for Friends re-runs and NCIS.

But I just got reading the Fifty Shades trilogy.  The writing is terrible, but it's a suck you in type of book.

    Before that I read Divergent.

  • Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah is a very good book. Plus it's pretty long, so it should keep you busy for a few days. :)

  • Have you seen Mad Men or Breaking Bad? These are some of the best shows in recent years. And super addicting!

Oh  Mad Men. That is the stuff of great TV ;)

I don't know if you get it, but I got super hooked on Coronation Street (that really old British soap) a few years ago.

Some book recommendations (I don't know what you like, but I've read these recently and liked them):

    • Accidents of Providence - Stacia M Brown
    • The Giver - Lois Lowry
    • Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides
    • Made from Scratch - Jenna Woginrich
    • The Glass Castle - Jeanette Walls
    • The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B - Sandra Gulland (this book was a big shock - SO fabulous to read)
    • Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen
    • Madame Bovary - Gustave Flaubert

  • What do you like to read?

A couple of months ago I got sucked into the Redemption series by Karen Kingsbury, which flows into the First Born series, which flows into the Sunrise series, Above the Line Series, and Bailey Flanigan series. That's 22 books total, but only if you like Christian fiction.

  • You know, as far as TV goes, the best thing is to rent/download series that have already completed.  Then you have like all the loose ends done!

Some that I love and have bought the series...  Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, Lost...  One show that my husband and I watched the whole first season last week was Game of Throwns.  It's a little D&D-nerdish, but good.  But now we're all caught up and have to wait each week to watch a new show...

  • I may seem boring... But I watch a lot of House Law and Order (all the different ones) and NCIS. I like Jersey Shore too but I've seen every episode at least 10 million times.. And Mob Wives is pretty good.

    As for books:

    -The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

    or any Nicholas Sparks book

-Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah (Loved it!!!)

    -The Help

    -Saving CeeCee Honeycutt

-Handle with Care by Jodi Piccoult (spell check?) **I loved this book it kept me turning page after page but DO NOT read it if you take things that you read/see and twist them and turn them into worries because this book is about a little girl with osteogenisis imperfecta (once again spell check) and the struggles that her family faces (her sister accepting that she gets less attention, her parents and their choice for divorce, etc) But it IS a great book.

  • Jen Lancaster's books are HILARIOUS. Start with "Bitter is the New Black" and go from there.

  • I definitely agree with the Breaking Bad recommendation. That show is awesome. I'm also a huge fan of Criminal Minds.

I'm currently reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and it's really good.

  • On Hulu.com you can watch the entire REVENGE series.... it's great chick-flic/soap opera/suspenseful drama, and it's a series but it kinda runs like a movie if you watch the episodes all together or in spurts.  Hang in there.
  • If you like police fiction, I like the books by Lisa Gardner with DD Warren and Bobby Dodge as the detectives.  They are usually fast paced enough to draw you in with some mystery and sometimes a hint of romance.  She also wrote one called The Other Daughter that I liked.

If you don't watch it already, I like How I Met Your Mother and am still loyal to Grey's Anatomy.  I watch a lot of Friends reruns, as well.  If you haven't started watching Revenge, it is good.
