Re: Babies born today...

  • Assuming we're talking developed nation babies here, they will never know a world where information is inaccessible. They will never want to know something and not be able to because their local library doesn't have a book on it, never want to understand a culture and not be able to because their little town is culturally homogenous.

I think I'm getting misty eyed.

But on a sad note, they will never have the original Nintendo!

  • Loading the player...
  • Floppy disks

    Cassette tapes

    Film Cameras

     Video rental stores

     Phone books

    Paper maps

  • I think it's weird to think that kids now don't know how it was before 9/11.  And that's not just babies - there are kids in like 4th grade who don't know!

They also don't know that before everyone called it your "landline", they just called it your "phone".

  • They will never know patience.

In this age of instant gratification, kids never have to wait for anything. Remember when a movie same out in theatres and you had to wait almost a year for it to be on VHS? Remember calling a friend's house and if they weren't home having to wait for them to get home and get a message for them to call you back (no texting or voicemail)? Remember waiting for dial-up internet to connect and it took at least a minute for a new webpage to open? Remember having to actually go to the store to buy clothes, groceries, books, etc. without being able to order on the internet and get overnight delivery?

  • We had a VCR that had a remote with a long cord that connected it to the machine.  But you guys are all right it's crazy the things just a short time ago that our kids will never even see.

I was going to mention some of the things swimiz listed, but this makes me misty eyed too lol. Aside from babies, this post makes me think about how my high school students have never known a world without the internet - it's insane. They take so much for granted, everything is so accessible to them, they are so connected all.the.time. Drives me nuts - and this coming from a computer teacher lol. I have been known to tell boys in my classes to put down the PS3 controller on the weekend and go pick up chicks! Wink
