Newborn AIO Q

Thinking about using prefolds and covers for during the day and AIOs for night time changes. My DH said he would prefer just AIOs...has anyone used just AIOs for a newborn? What is your experience with AIOs for newborns?

Re: Newborn AIO Q

  • I'm two weeks in to using AIOs on my 3 week old twins. We have BG XS's, Lil Joeys, and some Kissaluvs newborn AIOs. I like that they're super easy to use. The Lil Joeys probably are my favorites, and they fit my 6 lb babies right away. My hubby likes the Velcro closures on the BGs better. We've had no problems with any of the diapers.

  • They are easier, just way more expensive.  But resell better than prefolds.  I have both types in my stash!

  • IMO, totally not worth it to do AIOs in NB phase. I mean, get a few BG XS for nighttime/going out, etc. but only a few. They will grow out of them in a just a few weeks. Prefolds and covers are the best way to go for NB phase. They really are not that hard. Everything about CDing seems more daunting when thinking about it in the abstract but in practice is NBD.
  • We haven't used them yet but I have only 28 AIOs in my NB stash so far. We love AIOs with my DD so I am hoping they work well with baby #2.
  • We loved our Lil Joeys! They fit up to 12 lbs, my youngest was able to wear them for about 6 weeks. We also had some GroVia AIOs that were great as well.

I bought them used and sold them for the exact same amount that I bought them for. So I paid nothing - definitely worth it.

  • We have prefolds, GMD workhorse fitteds, BG AIO's, Grovia newborn AIO's, and 2 other random newborn AIO's. DS pees through the AIO's (all 3 types) and in less than an hour his clothes are soaked. We ended up having to buy some doublers to use inside of them just to get them to last a bit longer so, obviously, I'm liking the GMD prefolds and fitteds much better. If you don't have a super soaker though I think the AIO's would be great...just not sure they would last at night if your LO sleeps for 3-5 hour stretches.
