Success after IF

XP from PAIF: If you were on bedrest, please come in

My friend is 32 weeks pregnant with twins and was just placed on bed rest. She is very active and this is going to be really hard on her. So my question is, what did you do while on bed rest to stay busy? I'm trying to put together a care package for her but need some more ideas.

  • Does she do any crafts? I was in the hospital on bedrest for 4 weeks, I was so sick of DVDs, magazines, and even the intenet by week two. I spent a lot of time working on some sewing projects for the kids, which are now some of my favorite keepsakes.

  • Besides doing lots of bumping :) I read books, did some needlepoint, and read magazines. Sometimes I watched things on Netflix. GL to your friend!

  • I was put on BR from 22w-35w, including 4 weeks in the hospital. I read, watched TV, and bumped mostly. I had a little routine/schedule for myself everyday of when I would watch TV, read, nap, shower, etc. to try to break the day into parts.
  • my attention span was short, so i liked to watch TV shows. i watched a lot of friends, frasier, and will & grace.

magazines, like people, cosmo, glamour, or whatever her preference is. i also read a lot of "chick lit" books that had happy endings.

i think snacks are nice, things that she can keep near her and eat without having anyone else get them for her.

if she likes crossword puzzles, maybe a book of crossword puzzles.

  • That's sweet of you to think of your friend. I was on bedrest from 21 weeks until I delivered at 35 weeks. Ditto to what pp said about books and magazines if she likes that. Crossword puzzles or word searches are good, too. Maybe some of her fav snacks. If she is allowed to shower, then maybe some bath stuff. Could you see if a local manicurist could come to your friend to give her a nano and/or pedi? If she's not on a restricted diet, then maybe some take out. I also just really loved visits from friends.

  • I did hospital bedrest, so this might vary if you she is in the hospital or not.

Schoolsout (another nestie from here) brought me a really awesome handheld massager for aches and pains.

Movies were hard to watch since I would be constantly interrupted, but TV shows on DVD are nice.

Another nestie came and cut my hair in the hospital which was awesome.

Bath scrubs, like really exfolliating ones, were a life saver, since my shower was my only reprieve to normal life, and I sat in bed feeling gross and sweaty and wearing those plastic inflating leg compression things...ick.

Little decorations for her bed area are fun.

  • I did about 14 weeks of BR starting at 22w...half in the hospital and half at home. I watched a lot of tv and movies, made a lot of to do lists for DH, talked on the phone, and napped. As a PP mentioned, it helped to break the day into parts and set a routine. I really appreciated my favorite snacks, a good water bottle to stay hydrated, a good luck little stuffed animal, and nice toiletries (when I was stuck in the hospital).

I had 11 weeks of bedrest with triplets - all were at home.  I was actually able to work in the beginning from home so that helped break up the boredom.  I also did some knitting.  For the last several weeks I had to be flat, so there wasn't much to do but watch movies and DVDs of TV series.  I watched just about every movie that I had always wanted to see.  I wasn't allowed to get up to make food, so every morning my hubby would make me food for the day to keep by the bed.

If she's able to be up a bit, I would definitely bring over some crafty projects.  Snacks are always great and plenty of non-baby related reading material (since there won't be much time for that after the LOs are born).

  • I was on bedrest for 10 weeks. I caught up on shows on netflix, played on the computer, read books, did crossword and word puzzles. And was bored out of my mind by the end.

Is she in the hospital or at home? If she is in the hospital, snacks would be perfect. If she is at home, consider making some easy meals for her. H tried, but he is not the best cook so when someone brought me food, I was ever so thankful! Or maybe even some giftcards to local restaurants that deliver.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
