We got 10 crib sheets and 4 changing pad covers at our baby shower. I think this might be overkill but I'm a FTM so not really sure how many you go through. I know we will be doing a lot of laundry but it will be nice to not have to worry about it if there's a blowout in the middle of the night. How many do you think you need on hand?

I have two changing pad covers and 3 crib sheets. Only once did I ever run into a problem where I ran out of crib sheets and that was because my son was sick and kept throwing up everywhere.
When they are newborns they tend to get poo on their changing pads quite often so while they are still tiny I just used a changing mat OVER the pad so I didn't have to wash them every single day.
10 is definitely overkill, but I'd probably keep 3 of the changing pads.
we have 3 crib sheets, 2 cotton and 1 fuzzy-ish knit carter's one for the winter.
DS has severe reflux. he threw up constantly the first year of life and we never needed more.
We used 2 changing pad covers, one in the wash and one on.

I agree 2-3 of each is perfect. You could do with 2, but it's nice to have that third if LO gets a stomach virus that lasts a few days.
I have a friend who recommended the same thing (2 layers, I think), so I would probably keep 3-4 of the sheets and return the rest.
I have heard of doing this too, but I have also heard that if you have more than 2 layers (I think) it makes the mattress too soft and causes a suffocation hazard. Anyone else heard that or was it just fear-mongering?
I read that as well...I've read only a waterproof pad and one sheet is enough in order to keep the mattress firm.
