I'm going in for what should be my first post-natal check up on Thursday morning (I had to go in a couple of weeks ago to get antibiotics).
What happened at your first post-natal check up? What questions did you ask the doctor?
Did you discuss any kind of genetic testing? We still don't have the final autopsy report so we don't know what caused Patricia's death, but the examiner found no physical abnormalities with her or my placenta.
Re: First post-natal check up
I asked if there was anything they could tell me about why my DD died (we declined an autopsy, but had sent my placenta in for testing) We went over just about every blood test that I had during the pregnancy to make sure nothing was missed. We also discussed a potential next pregnancy, and what measures will used to make sure nothing like this happens again. He checked to make sure the uterus was back to normal as well as everything else. I had a whole list of questions written before we went to make sure I didn't forget anything. I wish I kept that list so I could share everything that I asked. Good luck on your appointment, let us know how it goes.

We asked a lot of questions but unfortunately nothing was any clearer than the night he was born/died. I didn't expect to get any answers but it was still hard when there were none. I hope you get some, but be prepared that there possibly may be "no reason" which is very hard to accept. I still had to ask all the questions though.
The Dr. just examined me and we also talked about a future pregnancy & a "gameplan" for it. This was just the OB I ended up w/ when I went to Labor & Delivery, and I decided I really didn't like him. Even though there were no answers, I felt like he could've talked more. He just sort of shrugged a lot and said he didn't know. After that I found another OB who I feel good about, so don't be afraid to get another opinion if you feel you need to.
My OB just did a quick physical exam to check how I was healing. I asked for a referral to a MFM so I could go over my questions with him about my son's passing and future pregnancies (he gave me a detailed screening/follow-up plan for future pregnancies and he gave me the most likely diagnosis for my son's passing). I asked my OB a few things about TTCAL and such, but the MFM was more informative overall at this point for me. I also got a RPL run, even though it was my first loss, and the MFM was happy to do this for me.
It was very helpful to have DH come with me to the appt and we were scheduled at the end of the day so I wouldn't run into pregnant women. A lot of times, the doctor or nurse will let you wait in an exam room rather than the waiting room and I encourage you to ask about this if it would help you even a little.
I hope your appt goes well. Ask everything and anything you want, it's absolutely okay and your time to do so. Also, ask for referrals to specialists if you want~ I loved my OB but the specialists are really far more well-informed (especially when something goes wrong) in my experience. Good luck and (((hugs)))
