I'm no longer thinking about my weight or reading posts about it

I am eating healthy. I know I've gained a lot already. It is now beyond my control. I am doing everything right and I've gained about 20 lbs. I am also 5' 11". I had just run a marathon and had a miscarriage before my BFP so my exercise was greatly reduced and my hormones have been all over the map. I am not sitting around eating buttered poptarts all day.

I can't deal or obsess anymore. My dr is weighing me and says I am ok (before I get jumped on about how it's bad for me). Yes, I feel uncomfortable and big but hello, I am pregnant.

Reading about people stressing over like 6 lbs is going to make me have a meltdown. Nothing wrong with that, I just can't participate. I only even think about it when I am on this site.

 Anyone joining me here?

Re: I'm no longer thinking about my weight or reading posts about it

  • This sounds like a great idea. I have gained ten pounds but am 9 inches shorter than you are so it is a lot of weight on my frame. I have also drastically decreased insane exercise and increased (healthy!) calories. Every time I read about someone who wasn't showing until 6.5 months with their first I want to scream.

  • Me! Sound Like you are being healthy and the weight gain is happening anyways, which is the same issue I'm having. If my doctor says its fine, then I'm not worrying, I'm pregnant and if im gaining weight while doing the right thing, then the number means nothing to me... I'll have time to worry about it after the baby comes!

  • Definitely don't stress about it.  You are eating healthy and doing everything right.  No need to fret over something like that.

  • Good for you! You should not be stressed about the fact that you have gained weight. if your dr is ok with your weight gain, then you have nothing to worry about. I have never had a weight problem until right before I got pregnant. Oh well. Sh*t happens. I can work on dieting and exercise after munchkin comes.  Don't worry about the girls on here who are having emotional breakdowns over the fact that they have gained weight for the first time in their adult lives. It's all about your health and baby's health.

  • I should also say this:

I fainted yesterday. In Whole Foods, no less. Why? Because I was trying to mind my caloric intake for the day. I needed a meal and I had some pretzels. I had already eaten a lot that day. I must need more calories than most. It was awful, I got soaking wet with sweat. This has happened several times, actually (if not fainting then almost fainting).

So, just in case that helps others.

  • I totally agree!!

The only time I weigh myself now is at the doctor's office and they don't see anything wrong with what I'm doing so why should I?

Yes, you definitely should be eating when you are hungry. A healthy baby and a healthy mommy is what you should be striving for. No more watching calories for you lady ! :)  Just eat when you feel hungry and try to eat things that will keep you full instead of empty calories. Good luck! There is plenty of time to worry about your weight after baby arrives. Try not to stress right now about it.

Also, I agree that it is stupid for people to complain about the wt they have gained (especially when it isn't much). We will all gain different amounts and that is normal.

  • I'm with you. I hate hearing/reading about mommies to be stressing out about weight gain. You're pregnant, of course you are going to gain weight. You NEED to gain weight to support a healthy pregnancy.

FWIW, I lost about 25lbs in 2 days after I gave birth to DD. A good portion of the weight gain is fluid that you need to build up to be able to lose during delivery.

  • "high five"

Good for you. With a few obvious exceptions of course, obsessing about your weight gain is for people who live on doritos and diet coke. It's also your doctor's job. Your job is to eat real healthy food, and grow that baby.

  • I have to admit: I weight myself this morning in anticipation of my OB appt this afternoon and was pretty bummed to see that I'm up about 5 lbs since my last visit. However, I'm the same as you! While I've reduced my exercise a lot, I am also eating a ton of lean protein, veggies, fruit, and organic dairy. One of my coworkers who is a mom made a good point: "If your baby was crying because s/he was hungry, you would feed your baby. You're hungry because you have to feed your baby!"

  • I loathe the weight threads (complaints, 'am I normal in gaining 5lbs already?!?', check-ins, etc..) and ignore them. Some may need them to feel better about how much or little they're gaining but it only makes me question where I am and we can't compare to each other. All of our bodies are so different. I'm trying to eat as balanced as I can, w/snacks in between meals and will worry about the weight needed to be lost as soon as I get OK from Dr. about 6 weeks post delivery. Good luck and hope you avoid anymore fainting in Whole Foods or anywhere else for that matter!

  • Yes! This is my 2nd pregnancy and I feel like I am plumping up everywhere faster. I dont know how I got myself to not worry about weight the first time around. My sister is pregnant with me and is 3 months further along than me and she is obsessed about her weight and I think in turn it is having a little bit of a effect on me. But I am with you now, no more stressing about it. I have a good friend is is beautiful and a size 4. She had two kids and gained 60 lbs with each of them. It all came off. Just goes to show you can go back to normal. I gained 40 with ds and I did go back to pre-pregnancy weight, maybe it is a little looser, but it went back :)

My friend had the other end of it where she naturally carries small and people were telling her she needs to stop depriving her baby and eat some food. Well she did eat. The general public isnt happy either way.

  • Good for you! Obsessing about weight while PG is just silly. It's different if a woman is using her pregnancy to eat whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and how much she wants just because she's pregnancy (i.e., I can eat an entire bag of oreos b/c I'm PG). As long as you're eating healthy and getting the nutrients you and LO need, don't stress. Your body is doing what it was made to do. Worry about the weight after LO is in your arms.

  • Dude - my girlfriend gained 70 lbs in her pregnancy and I just saw her last week (9 months after) and she looks so freaking good. Not only did she lose the weight, but she lost more and she is so toned and cute. I think it may just be her body type...but it gave me hope. I'm thinking as long as we don't look like Jessica Simpson...we're good. :)
  • Raising my hand! I'm up 15 lbs and not going to stress about it. I'm following the recommended dietary guidelines pretty closely (7 servings of fruit and veggies, lots of lean proteins, healthy whole grains, organic dairy) and I'm tired of stressing about it. I walk 45 minutes everyday, do my "birthing exercises" every night, and do prenatal yoga once a week. I'm not going to the gym. I'm not going to weigh myself everyday. I'm not going to diet. I'm OVER IT.

  • im glad you posted this. every previous post on weight gain i saw was people who were concerned they hadnt gained much or anything at all (or lost). i felt like i was the only one who actually was gaining weight. even though i knew that was normal, i felt like the outcast. I'm up 7lbs and 5'4" which isnt way over the recommended 3-5 lbs (who made that up anyway?) but it was making me question my eating. I do weigh myself once a week but its really just to keep me eating healthy and remember i cant eat whatever i want or it will show!

I am pretty much continuing to eat the way i did before pregnancy at a healthy weight, eating good foods but also treating myself when i want. the only thing is i eat a lot more food now than i used to and dont have any high intensity workouts, just walking. I feel comfortable where i am and think it will also be better in second tri when we're not eating just because we're nauseous or afraid we will get nauseous. of course then we will prob just be plain hungry! I wouldnt worry if i were you, you're very tall so im sure you're carrying it just fine!

  • I am actually stressing because I have not gained any weight yet.  The book I am reading (highly rec book for multiple preg and by a Dr) says I should gain most of the weight before week 24, then taper off.  It feeds the babies so they will be bigger at birth.

  • Good for you! Just try to be as healthy as you can. My doctor asked me if I was keeping track of my weight and I told her no. She was happy to hear that! She says a lot of people put extra stress on themselves worrying about every pound. Just make responsible diet and exercise choices. I don't know what I weighed before my BFP, and I don't know what I weigh now. They weigh me when I go to appointments and she said she'll let me know if there is something I need to change.

  • I actually just made a similar comment to a friend of mine the other day. I'm a plus sized girl to begin with....I normally worry about my weight day in and day out. I keep track of calories, fats, carbs, etc. I for one am soo happy to be able to put all that worry down for awhile!!! I'm trying to make the best food choices I can while also indulging occasionally to satisfy some cravings! I've gained about 10 lbs so far and I'm quite happy with that. There are a million other things to worry about during pregnancy...my weight is not going to be one of them!!

  • I am with you. I depend on my doctor alone to discuss my weight and I will not read weight related posts.

Um, did you read the OP?

    Take it elsewhere!
