I went today for my 40 week appointment. And she said i'm 2 maybe 3 cm, still thick, baby still at -2. I asked her about induction if baby just doesn't drop. She said "we don't induce vbacs". So at what point do you cut off? She didn't have an answer. I told her I am all for going to 41 weeks, i'm okay with that - nervous, but okay. But after that, i'm not. I am a nervous wreck about something happening. I'm nervous about having a big baby that I couldn't push out anyways. Or needing to push harder, hense putting more stress on my c/s scar because baby is big.
If I need a c/s, so be it. I'm not heart-set on a vbac. Sure another vbac would be great, but at this point my sole interest is a healthy baby. I have big babies - my DS2 was 9lbs at 39 weeks, DS1 was 8.5lbs at 38 weeks. I feel like this girl may have a big head too which is why she isn't dropping anymore. 2 other midwives i've seen (including the one who delivered DS2 via my first vbac) said they would slowly induce me before they let me hop right into a c/s. Now this one, who is in the same practice won't? Or maybe she's just super pro-vbac. I dunno. No, I don't want a c/s, but it may very well be my only option if they dont' agree to an induction. So I Tuesday, I have an ultrasound to check my fluid, an NST, and an appointment... all with the midwife who delivered my DS2. I really hope I don't need that appointment, but as things are looking, I will. I'll be 40+4. Next Friday i'll be 41... and that's "d" day for me. Most vbacs aren't allowed to go past 41... I just want all my midwives to be on the same damn page. Either you induce, or you don't.
Sorry for my rambling... i'm just frustrated with my midwife. I want a definitive answer on how long I can go that ALL the midwives deem safe. Not what one says is safe, and one doesn't. I'm certain i'm going overdue... i'm already set on that in my mind. I just want to deliver a healthy baby.
Re: My midwife won't induce me. At all. (Vbac)
My understanding is the pitocin can cause contractions that put the uterus in danger w a VBAC. No personal experience, obviously.
Ask about other induction methods, though? Knowing you will need a c-section if they don't work.

Thanks for writing this. I appreciate it. I'm also afraid of an old placenta... when I had my DS2 at 39 weeks, my midwife said my placenta was looking "old" and used up. So I have no idea what happens or how they would know this if I kept on going. I'm getting NST's/ultrasounds... but it's not like they can see the placenta. It's so nervewracking.
