June 2012 Moms

This is not a good time for a bathroom remodel.

WTF were we thinking????

We've had this planned for 2-3 months, but the timing hasn't worked out for us to actually start the remodel until this past weekend.  Luckily, we have a second bathroom, but it's in the basement, which normally isn't a big deal except our basement is only accessible through the garage.

These middle of the night potty breaks are not fun.  Not to mention, EVERYTHING in our house is covered in construction dust.  I've tried keeping it clean, but it's a wasted effort.  We can't even think about the nursery until this is done.  I really hope this bathroom remodel is done soon b/c I'm over it already.

  • I know how you feel, except we were forced into a remodel due to plumbing issues.

Lucky for us the 4 week saga comes to an end tomorrow. Just keep your head up and be grateful you have a second bathroom! It will all be a distant memory soon.

  • I don't know how you're doing it.  I wake up and have to go RIGHT THEN.  I couldn't make a long trip without wetting myself.  Hehe, I'd probably have to invest in one of those toilet chairs, stairs are my enemy.  Good luck, and I hope that your remodel goes well!

  • I feel your pain.  We did it when I was around 30 weeks last time.  We were told it would take a week so I timed it with a business trip guess what it took 2 and ? and I had to stay at my MILs for over a week because I could not be exposed to the remodel due to our house being old and possible lead.  It sucked but it was nice to have a new bathroom

  • Huge hugs!  Our toilet was simply not flushing for about 2 weeks, and I was about to go out of my mind.  We finally got it fixed, and it's like heaven.  Makes you REALLY appreciate modern plumbing!  Think about all the women all over the work who don't even have access to toilets.  Poor ladies!

We put an offer in on a house we planned to gut renovate and found out about this baby a week later.  We've been working on the renovation full force since December and the house isn't even done yet!  Thank goodness we aren't living in it, but man is it stressful.  So I feel your pain!

Luckily, we're moving in this weekend and will finish up what we can in the remaining weeks, including starting to think about the nursery.

We looked at buying a new house when we found out about this kid.  But the house we looked at hardcore needed way too much work than we wanted to put into it.  And we didn't want to be house poor when our current house is exactly what we want (we've already remodeled most of it), but just wanted more space.  It's definitely big enough for the one baby and us, so we decided to stay put and finish the other projects we'd been putting off.

Thanks everyone.  I'm really hoping this will be done in the next week or so.

  • We just finished a giant (unplanned) remodel of our lower level and the entire house has a think layer of construction dust on everything. We have begun wiping down our walls to try to get rid of all the dust before baby gets here and plan on having our air ducts cleaned sometime in the next two weeks to try to get the dust out of here.

One tip that I wish someone had given us before we started the construction was to cover the vents in the room where you are doing construction with a damp rag and it will prevent the dust from getting sucked up in the vents. It's too late for our house but maybe you can still prevent some from being blown around in your house.

  • We are repainting our whole house and recarpeting the three bedrooms... ya timing sucks but at least it's before baby!
  • We are remodeling our bathroom too, but luckily we have 2 1/2 baths!  A powder room down stairs and a our master bath.  We also hired a contractor to do the work, so he will be out in the next week too.

I hope yours comes to an end soon!!   I couldn't imagine having to run all over the place to go to the bathroom at this point in the pregnancy!

  • Wow! That sounds like a giant PIA. sorry you are having to deal with it while pregnant...

I don't know what I would do if we were to re-model our bathroom right now because we only have 1!

  • We are in the process of remodeling our master bathroom and DH is doing it himself. So, it is a long process with taking breaks, having other things to do on weekends and him traveling for work. Luckily we have a full bathroom right next to our bedroom, so I don't have to go too far to use the bathroom at night. It's supposed to be done before baby gets here....we'll see if it actually is.

We actually own a heating & air company, so we've got the vent thing under control.  :)
