Cloth Diapering

Thoughts on gDiapers?

We are still very early in our pregnancy, but I am trying to do research on the different options available to us...  So I came across gDiapers.  Anyone used them?  Love them?  Hate them?  Please educate me ladies!

Re: Thoughts on gDiapers?

  • I got a set of 14 nb and 8 size small gPants, with tons of packs of the flushable inserts for free from a friend who ended up hating them.

What I can say is that I would not have paid for them, but we do use them when we want something a little more low profile.

You really really have to watch the fit videos to make sure they don't leak, and they take some practice.  They're very cute, but too expensive IMHO.  I liked them as a more eco-friendly option for diapering my newborn, but I won't be buying the next sizes up.  I'm really loving my cheapie pockets (BG knockoffs).

Also, it's never too early to research!  There is a ton of information and a huge array of options out there.

  • Hate them.

A few ppl get them to work by stuffing with a prefold instead of the inserts that gDiapers makes or just by sheer luck. Most ppl, however, do not have success with them. There are other CDs that are of much better quality and less expensive. GDiapers seem to be out for your $ and nothing else. Any issue you may have is your fault, ie- constant leaks.

If you do want to try them, I would suggest looking for used and buying just a couple.

If you like the idea of reusing a cover, but switching out the inserts, I would look into AI2's (all-in-2's) or even trifolding a prefold in a cover. Look up Flips and GroVia. They are more reputable brands. They have disposable inserts available, too, if that was another perk for you.

GL! CDs are great if you get quality dipes.

  • What I really don't like about them is that they require three pieces: the non PUL cover (why a non PUL cover??), the waterproof liner that snaps in, and then the insert or prefold. Whereas a "regular" diaper cover system is just the PUL cover and the prefold. I can't for the life of me figure out why gDiapers thinks this is a good system. They have made cloth diapering more complicated for no reason.

    Agreed.

If you really want to try them, lots of gDiapers are constantly coming up for sale on the FSOT groups (probably disappointed parents looking to get their money back!) You could buy a few used and try them out before investing in new ones.

They're the older BabyLands with snaps.  I got them used from a local lady for less than $3/each.  The reviews I've read from people buying them new are mixed, but they fit our baby really well.  I do have 3 BG 4.0s as well and the only thing I like better about the BGs is the fleece part.  It's smoother and I imagine will be easier to clean when her poops get yucky.

EDIT because baby brain made me put the wrong name down.  It's Baby Land.

  • Do you live near a CD store?  It might be worthwhile to go and look at (and feel) some of the options available before committing to gDiapers.  Before I got pregnant and heard about gDiapers I thought they might be a viable option, but the more research I did, I decided that it would be too much of a nuisance to constantly be ordering the disposable inserts.

What sold me on CD was looking at some of the videos on youtube.  It made me realize that it is not nearly as scary and overwhelming as it seemed at first.  I would definitely look at other CD options as well, and see what might work best for you.

This! We use mostly flats and covers now, but were given gdiapers from a friend who never used them. I only use them if I've run out of flats & haven't done laundry yet. I would NEVER spend my own $ on them.

  • Kinda funny, I also got mine from a friend who bought them but never used them. Her reason though was not because she hated them.

I have used them a few times on P and haven't had any problems. I never watched any videos either so maybe I'm just a lucky one. HOWEVER, I don't like the way they fit my daughter, and the velcro leaves marks on  her belly. I also agree that it is a very silly system. They look cute, and I like that they are low profile under her clothes, but that's about it.

I'm prob gonna keep them for a little while but might try to get rid of them or pass them on in the future.

  • Thanks Ladies!  I didn't mean to post and run.  Yesterday was a crazy day.  I will have to see if there is a CD store near me.  I am sure there is since I am in the DFW area.  I thought that the gDiaper website looked a little to good to be true.  I am hoping to sell my DH on CD, but he is already being very hesitant.  Off to do more research!  Thanks for the video links!  I am going to watch them now!
