Just wondering if anyone with Hypothyroidism had any problems during their pregnancy? I got my levels checked in the first trimester and they were normal, now this trimester when I got them checked they are all out of wack. Normal is around .5-5.5 mine was 38. Although the number is high it means that the hypothyroid is down. Which means I have to up my dose. I already take .125 and she wants me to double them right away to .250 and I got retested today to see if for some reason the results got messed up. Just wondering if anyone else had fluxuating numbers during pregnancy. I think Ive been at .125 for about 5 years now and get it checked regularly.
Thanks for any imput
Re: Hypothyroid out of wack this trimester
Wow, that is high! You must be feeling miserable.
Mine were fine during my first tri, I will get them checked again at my next appointment for this trimester. My midwife said that often pregnancy does throw them out of whack.
DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.
I have dealt with fluctuating thyroid levels since DD was 6 months old, so just over 3 years. It goes back and forth from hyper- to hypo-. Right now, I'm being treated for hypo- levels. My endocrinologist and OB both want my TSH to stay between 1.0-2.0 during pregnancy specifically, so 38 seems crazy high to me! I'm currently on a daily rotating dose of 50mcg/75 mcg. So far, my TSH has stayed between 1.0 and 2.0 this pregnancy. I have my thyroid blood panel drawn every 4-6 weeks during pregnancy, and every 8 weeks when not pregnant.
Are your other thyroid levels within normal range (T4, T3, etc)? It does seem odd for your TSH to get to 38 when you're being monitored. How frequent are your blood draws?

It's completely normal for you to need a higher dose. That is what I experienced too, my numbers were ok during first trimester and my dose was increased 2nd trimester. The doc is anticipating another increase 3rd trimester.
Hopefully the higher dose helps you feel better.
I was just diagnosed with this last June, and from then until October I had gained around 35 lbs from synthroid being underprescribed >.<
I'm at .150 now, and I feel okay. I was at .100 through the first trimester and I felt like absolute crap - I was so exhausted one morning before work that I just sat there and cried
They do expect that your prescription should be upped during pregnancy, but I can't remember why! That's just what I was told by my obgyn and family doctor. Try to see if they can't test you once a month, just to make sure.
Wow - that is a crazy difference! Mine had to be upped a few times during my pg last time. This time, I've had it increased twice now. My latest dosage increase wasn't huge, .75 to .88 - they didn't tell me what my levels were.
