Bottle Mix-up post- WDYT?

I was a little bored, so I lurked on June, where someone had linked to this post, and I thought it was interesting.  What do you all think?

Personally, I don't think she overreacted. I agree with some said that if this is happening, what else could be going on?  It'd be so much worse if the child had a milk allergy. I'd also be upset if my younger child was given cow's milk.

Re: Bottle Mix-up post- WDYT?

  • Once..I'd let it go. Having worked in a daycare and now with kids of my own..accidents/mixups happen. No one is perfect, neither is daycare. Hell, I screw up with my own kid at least twice a day. :)

I would however be mad that it a) happened twice b) there seems to be a coverup going on. If the daycare would've apologized and moved on, I'd forgive and forget too, but someone in this case is not doing their job and needs to be addressed.

That said I wouldn't go all Combat Mom on them either. I'd speak up again, see what happens and then change daycares if it was still an issue. It's only milk, not arsenic after all. She seems like she's starting WWIII over milk. Personally, I have bigger battles to fight.

    Pft! You are so biased.

And I am too tired to have an intelligent answer, but felt like pointing out the obvious.

  • I would be pretty upset with the situation but I also believe in not acting like an assshole. From her description, it sounds like she stormed in there and made a big scene which IMO isn't the appropriate way to handle the situation. That's the part where she loses me.

While I get that people make mistakes/etc, IMO this is a serious error, especially because it happened twice in a row, and would lead me to question what other things have happened that weren't caught.  Regardless of who is caring for your child, having a trusting relationship is vital and it seems they broke it. I would have a hard time continuing to send my kid there.

It's easy to dismiss as "just formula/etc" but it could make the child very sick, or even be life threatening depending on the circumstances. It seems especially off-putting given it just happened, one would think they would be extra cautious at this point.

  • I said that I didn't think she overreacted, but I guess I meant to say that she was right to be upset. I'm not confrontational at all, so I would never act like that, I would let it go the first time, but the second time I'd consider changing daycares.

  • Two incidents back to back would really be what p!ssed me off. If it had happened once every 6+ months, I'd let it slide.
