Organizing question

I have had one shower and have another one in 2 weeks.  I am starting to organize the nursery and put gifts away.  I cannot figure out what to put in the dresser.  Do you put diapering items since we are changing on it?  Or put onesies for when she is a newborn?  Hang onesies?  Those of you that are not FTM's... what do you have to have close in the dresser if you are using it as a changing table?  Thanks ladies.

Re: Organizing question

  • I am a FTM so no expert, but I would do the following....depending on how big your dresser is... I say, go in order of frequency of use and need.  Top down...

get the dream drawer dividers for the top drawer or two.  This will provide more sections should you decide to divide them up for diapering items.

Put diapering items in the top 1-2 drawers (clean dipes, lotions, wipes)

Put commonly used items in other drawers like gowns, onesies, kimono style shirts that you will use during changing in other drawers.

If you don't have any bins or shelves with linen organizers, use the bottom drawer for burp cloths and little blankets.

    Hope this makes sense.

  • We don't use our dresser for changing, but if we did, one drawer would be diapers, wipes, rash cream, and other toiletires.

The top two drawers of DD's dresser are pants/bloomers and socks/shoes/baby legs. The middle two are empty. One bottom drawer is stuffed full of blankets and quilts. The other bottom drawer is clothes that she's outgrown, waiting to be passed on to DD2.

We hang everything else. This includes skirts, dresses, onesies, shirts, and outerwear.

  • We have a changing table where we keep some diaper supplies, but we use two of the dresser drawers for cloth diapers.  We have a drawer for pajamas/onesies, one for socks, babylegs, hats, other accessories, and one for blankets, sheets, etc.

  • With DS, there was enough room on top of the dresser for his changing pad and an organizer w/ diaper supplies, so all of his newborn/0-3mth clothes went in the top drawer and then it progressed from there.

With this LO, the top of the dresser is only big enough for the changing pad.  So, DH and I put up a shelf above the dresser/changing area for the diaper supplies and, once again, LO's clothes from newborn on up are in the dresser.

Just make sure your diaper pail is somewhere nearby.

I have a cloth basket on the dresser next to my changing pad. I keep some diapers, wipes, and butt paste in there so it's right on hand. The rest of the diapers get stored in the closet and I just refill my basket as necessary.

In the dresser, I have one drawer with the zip up/button up sleepers, one drawer with onesies, another drawer with pants. The two bottom drawers are used for extras like my spare crib sheets, spare changing pad cover, and waterproof mattress pad. All her dresses and nice outfits are hanging up.

ETA: another drawer has socks and bloomers and stuff like that. I knew I was missing something.
