Success after IF

Called 911 this weekend

Was sitting home with the kids Saturday afternoon when I saw the lever handle of the door leading to garage turn like someone was opening the door. Luckily the deadbolt was locked. At first I thought I'd imagined it. Then it happened again. Grabbed the kids, yelled out "who is it?", got no response. So I called 911, as I was on the phone with the police dispatcher I look out the front window and can see a van pulling out our driveway through the blinds. Go back to the garage door and the handle is turning again!

Dispatcher tells me they'll send someone as soon as they have someone free. :-/

I called DH who is a cop and he tells me to use the gun if I need it. At this pint both kids are screaming and I'm sweating bullets. The a friend of mine arrives and the cops finally come just as I'm letting her in the house. Took them about 20 minutes.

One officer stayed out front while the other went in the garage gun drawn. They even searched the rafters. The only thing in there was the neighbors cat. We bought the house from them and have only lived here 2 weeks. They now live next door, so the cat is confused. Turns out the cat can sit on the sink in the garage, open the door, and let herself in!

It was scary! DH started telling people we had a cat burgler and we has a good laugh. Oh, the van I saw in the driveway was delivering a package from Amazon.

  • That must have been scary!! But LOL about the cat! Cats manage to get themselves in a lot of trouble.

In a similar cat burgler story. My cat set off our burgler alarm a few weeks ago.  I accidentally locked him in a room in the basemet and he climbed up to the window and hit the trip wire!!!! DH was in the basement with a baseball bat and I was having a heart attack untill I saw the cat run out of the room and we figured it out!!! I am thinking I have a pretty genius cat since he would have been in there all night had he not set it off!!

  • O.M.G that is so scary!!!  I can't even imagine.  However that his super funny that it was just a cat. Whew.  Talk about needing a drink after that episode!

  • Thank goodness! But damn - I'd have been scared to death! I'd also be annoyed that it took 20 minutes for the cops to show up when you were reporting a possible intruder. Not cool.
  • That is really scary, but I literally just laughed out loud. I cant imagine how scary that must have been in the moment!
