XP: Mom's who give prevacid...when did you stop?

Our pedi told us at Cam's 9 month appointment that most babies have grown out of their reflux by 9 months and they'd like us to try a few days without it and see how he does.

I am scared to death, Cam was a nightmare before he went on prevacid and SO uncomfortable.

Anyone stop the prevacid about this age? What was your experience?

  • Our son is on Zantac and at 6 mos our pedi recommended lowering the dose but DS started spitting up and crying through bottles again so back up it went. At his 9 mos appt our pedi said we'd revisit lowering the dose again at his 1 yr appt

  • We began weaning dd off her prevacid a month ago after her appt with GI.  We started with once a day instead of twice a day for 3 weeks.  Then we are to do everyother day for 3 weeks, every 3 days for 3 weeks, etc... So far she has done great!

  • We go back to the GI in May and I wondering if he will mention this.  DH wants to ask when GI thinks he may go off of it (we pay $90 OOP every month for it and DH is cheap) but to me, the stuff is worth its weight in gold and he can stay on it forever.

Like you I will be terrified when we have to go off of it.   I know Zantac is less powerful (DS was on it and it did nothing for him) maybe you could give him some of that and see how it goes?

  • We weaned Tim off Zantac at 6 months and Prev at a year, he went back on at maybe 18 months? and then off again in January. He has a few flare ups, but it's not the screaming any more it;s the spitting up... random vomiting.

I feel you on the pain of the cost, When we had United Health Scare we paid $120 a month. When we switched to Blue Cross it was $15. But I agree, it's worth the money. I always said if it were me I'd go without, but for a little one you can't that's not fair to them because they dont understand.
