I just flat out said, "How do you feel about natural birth?" "Tell me what you're concerned with." and we went from there. IDK if you're going to see a MW or OB, but I can tell you mine was supportive and made sure to add counters to my requests.
I'd rather not be induced before it's time - "OK, but you're AMA. At 40w, we're gonna have to talk, and at 41w, it's not an option." Understood.
I don't want an epidural - "You're a brave woman. I've notated it not to be offered. But if your blood pressure skyrockets, and we can't bring it down..." Yes'm, I agree.
I'd rather not have a section because he "might" be too big, "Can we chat at 11lbs?" Yes, please.
And, we both agreed from the get go that any plans I make are out the window the second either the baby or I show signs of stress. I liked her response, because I felt that she wasn't trying to give me a sense of false security. She wanted me to know I *have* to make allowances for my "plans" to change. I think that's important, too. You have to show a willingness to alter your plans if necessary. Sometimes, it is.
There's no reason to wait unless you're getting a vibe from your OB that she doesn't want to discuss everything at once - you might as well know all of your options from the get-go and also be aware of your doctor's position to make sure that you're a good match.
Good luck

I started discussing my desire for a NB right away with my OB. Since there were six in the practice I brought it up at every apt. By 25 weeks I wasn't too thrilled with any of the OB's. I am so glad I made the switch to MW's. I may not have known to do this if I wasn't so open about my desires.
I wouldn't be surprized if you are taken back by how laid back your OB is (if you are seeing an OB). That was one thing I could not stand. I always thought to myself "just because you do this everyday doesn't mean I do!"
I just noticed the time...I hope things went well for you!!!!

After 2 transvaginal ultrasounds and an external, it was confirmed that the baby was only measuring at 6 weeks, but I should have been right at 9 weeks. 6 weeks would have meant a positive pg test a week before conception. But we still had some hope that it was just a fluke and the baby was "hiding" but my betas were only at 13,000 so I didn't have a ton of hope. I started spotting that night, and my #'s just kept dropping and were down to 10,000 on Monday morning. I miscarried early in the morning of the 17th. Today is my first day back at work, and it sucks.
:-(
Anyway, everything seems to have passed naturally, so no D&C. My follow up appointment is on Thursday, so keep your fingers crossed for me that everything it's shipshape. My dr isn't making us wait the usual 3 months, so we can start trying again as soon as I have a period... so hopefully at the end of may.
