He won't sleep in his crib (also posted 9-12 month)

Our son sleeps through the night and can put himself back to sleep if he wakes up........but only if he is in bed with us!! We have created a monster I am afraid! Anyone else have this issue and been able to solve it?

I only know a few details to CIO - is that what we should do?

  • No advice but I feel your pain.  Our 4 year old is still in our bed so it is true you have created a monster.  With this LO we put her in her crib from day one and she is great about going in it.  Sorry but it gets worse, LOL.  When they are little it's cute and cuddly but when they get bigger, ugh.  The 4 year old disrupts my sleep more then the baby with his kicking and constant moving around.  So on that note good luck!

  • DD screams bloody murder (for hours) if we put her in the crib. I think I'll do what my mom did with me. Put a mattress on the floor, lay down with DD on the mattress, and then once she's asleep, sneak out. Just be sure to baby proof and gate the room well.

Im going to try that this summer. I can't have two kids in bed with me come Sept.

  • We just transitioned our 10 month old to her crib this past week, and we used the Sleep Lady Shuffle method. It is CIO, but you're in the room with them to help them through the transition. We followed it for five days and then realized that our presence in the room made it worse for her, so we left the room. Two days later, and she's sleeping through the night with only an occasional wake-up/fussing throughout. And this was a baby who screamed bloody murder any time we went near the crib.

If you can give it a week and follow the techniques in the Sleep Lady book, I think it could be successful. I especially liked it because they had a chapter on transitioning from the bed, which many books don't have.

Good luck! Feel free to PM if you have questions.
