Last year we went to one about 45 minutes south. They had great organization for the event (donors, check in lines, refreshments, giveaways), but the actual change was so messed up. They made us move like 3 times, we ended up under a tent and it had POURED the day before and they didn't tell us the change would be outside. DS was freezing, my jeans were soaking wet and we were all smushed under there.
This time the change was organized, except the lady had her kids scream/shriek when it was time to change your diapers...yes that went over well in a room full of babies. But the rest was so disorganized. They didn't have a great check-in area. They raffled off 5 baskets and noone told you to write your name on the tickets until the end. I figured they would just do it right after the change, but apparently not. They were in a narrow space and all the drinks, etc were at the back so you had to step over all the babies and mom's to get there and on the way out we got bombarded by local companies wanting to know if we would by their products.

As an organizer, it was a really hard morning. This isn't what I'm trained to do. There wasn't any funding. There weren't any experts on hand. We did the best we could, and hopefully we learned how to make it better next year. The people with the 'MOST experience were doing it for the second time ever today, and a lot of us were doing it for the first.
My best advice is that if you think you could help make it better... please, volunteer next year. Make it better.

Yeah, I hate when I go to a free event organized by volunteers and they don't live up to my expectations. All the do is raise awareness about an issue. Such a waste of time!

Seriously? I am a huge CD supporter and am very active in spreading awareness in my community. I am more than aware that it's a volunteer program and that the point was to raise awareness. However, it was really talked up and I was lead to believe there were going to be activities for the kids, door prizes, etc. I heard from a ton of people that went to last year's GCDC that it was awesome. This was pretty much straight forward - no activities, etc. Had I known that ahead of time, I wouldn't have expected more.
Ours was pretty good. Nothing fancy, but fun. We had several local vendors and a photographer. There were several cool door prizes, one of which I won, and it was very organized. They only thing that sucked was that the location was one of two schools on the same road, very close to each other. There were no signs pointing to the GCDC so I (and several other people) went to the wrong school and I almost missed the big change.
Sorry your event wasn't very well organized. : (

This sounds familiar, are you in NE Ohio? It would be cool if I met a bumpie and didn't even know it!
