Did you notice when people started to buy stuff from your registry? My biggest worry this entire time has been that I'm going to get a lot of things I don't need. I am so thankful for anything that we receive as no one is obligated, but for instance, 4 of our friends have mentioned that they are "having something made" for us. Based on what they're saying we know they are blankets. I feel like that's a very personal gift and I am surprised by those that are having this done, plus no one knows what gender the baby is.
Our shower is this coming weekend and not that much has been bought off of our registry. We have 50 guests coming so I'm pretty surprised. Maybe all my family/friends are just major procrastinators lol.
Re: For those who registry stalked...
With DD a lot went the days before. Also some guests purchased from other places where they could get a better deal on the same item.
This was our case too! Seems the sales associates aren't good at scanning the registry. I didn't start to see a lot of stuff going off our lists until 2-3 days before either. I wouldn't worry. You will get a lot of stuff that isn't on your registry that you will probably like just as much or better than other stuff. Like us, we didn't register for any bathtubs because we already had 2, and we got 2 more at our shower!!! CRAZY!!! So people will just buy random stuff sometimes, but that gives you a chance to take those items back to get what you really wanted.
Have fun at your shower!
I had almost 75% of my registry purchased the day before my shower. I know for most of our friends/family - it was payday.
Also, my Target registry - I got TONS of duplicates and they all had gift reciepts, so I'm not sure why they didn't come off my registry. I know this is a common problem with Target, so I wasn't surprised.
10/24/2011 - Surprise BFP; EDD 6/21/12! BOY!
Sweet baby boy born 6/14 9lb 2oz via csection.
I agree with what others are saying in that lots of times have I seen items that were not taken off the registry and the person ended up with duplicates.
This was not what happened in my case though. My shower was this weekend and we somehow ended up with 90% clothes, blankets, and towels. While it was nice of everyone to get lots of cute clothes, I ended up with hardly anything off my registry! We are ft parents so I'm not sure why everyone did this, bc they know we need everything! I expected the big items to not be purchased, but I'm talking things like bottles, etc we got hardly any of. One problem I noticed is that alot of registry items that I choose for good reviews were online only and not sold in stores. Had I known this I would have picked easy items for my guests to buy. I also registered for most items at BRU and most of my guests went to Target. Many others just didn't purchase off my registry at all which really surprised me and many of them bought all newborn outfits! Apparently everyone thinks my baby will be small, I hope we get some use out of them!
I had my shower this weekend, and found that the cashiers just didn't scan the baby registry. I got a lot of gifts from the registry that weren't marked off. Guests told me they made the cashier aware, they just weren't scanning the barcode I guess.
So I just went online and marked the stuff I got as purchased.

I've been trying not to stalk my registry but my curiosity takes over :-)
My shower is in 2 weeks and out of 40 something items only like 7 got purchased. Also I just have an amazon registry so a lot of my mom's friends might not be comfortable ordering things online.
I always bought off of registry for friends' showers but from my experience a lot of people do go and buy on their own because they get all the cute clothes and toys. Also a lot of people do last minute shopping as well.
Either way we get a 10% off discount for our registry to buy whatever guests don't get and worst case i'll just keep tags on the clothes and exchange for different sizes.
We have an Amazon registry with a shower this Saturday. Very few items have been purchased, and we've actually bought about half of what's 'gone' from the registry (only 16 items, with 154 not bought). I don't think there's much time for people to order online, so expect most are going to grab random items from stores before they come over this weekend.
I thought my mom was mostly purchasing the items and sending them for the shower (she lives in MI and won't be there), so each time we got a box, I put the shipping box in the spare room to open at the shower. But then for some reason, we opened a box that came recently and didn't recognize the name. After a lot of confusion, I finally broke down and looked at the 'Thank You' list Amazon has and was really surprised at who had actually gotten us the items that were coming off the registry! My mom had only gotten us a couple of bottles. We had several friends get us the other items. Still not everyone coming to the shower, but a greater variety than I had originally thought. We have everything we 'need' for the baby, so the registry is just filled with books, toys and some Harry Potter onsies. But I wouldn't mind getting those, too.
