For those who registry stalked...

Did you notice when people started to buy stuff from your registry? My biggest worry this entire time has been that I'm going to get a lot of things I don't need. I am so thankful for anything that we receive as no one is obligated, but for instance, 4 of our friends have mentioned that they are "having something made" for us. Based on what they're saying we know they are blankets. I feel like that's a very personal gift and I am surprised by those that are having this done, plus no one knows what gender the baby is.

Our shower is this coming weekend and not that much has been bought off of our registry. We have 50 guests coming so I'm pretty surprised. Maybe all my family/friends are just major procrastinators lol.

  • With DD a lot went the days before.  Also some guests purchased from other places where they could get a better deal on the same item.

  • people have bought stuff already from ours, and my shower isn't for another 3 weeks. I'm sure people are just procrastinators. I wouldn't stress, they may not have updated the registry either!

  • 3 days before the shower is when I noticed a lot of stuff coming off the registry.

  • People have bought 9 things so far - 1 was purchased by a friend realllllllly early (she happened to find my registry before we sent out shower invites because she was also registered on Amazon and decided to search for kicks), the rest were just purchased in the last few days. My shower is still 2 weeks away, and I figure that most people don't think about things that early. Probably in the next week or so there'll be more purchases. People often do things last minute if the event isn't the main thing on their mind, so I wouldn't worry just yet :)

  • I agree w/ PP about the 3 days before the Shower thing. I still got a lot of things not on my list and that is totally ok. One was awesome (a changning table organizer that I never knew I wanted) and some were not so awesome (ended up with dozens of NB sized onesies and two Baby Bullet systems). Returns at both Walmart and BRU were a breeze, though and we used the store credit to buy things that were on our list that we hadn't received.

  • Agreed with PP's! At most 3 days before is when we saw thigns coming off of our registry. Also, don't look at your registry and think that you wont be getting a lot at your shower bc a lot of the store associates did not scan our registry to mark the items off. DH and I went back and edited our registries last night of the things we have gotten and took off about 40 items! LO's nursery is starting to overflow and we still have one more shower!
  • I have a gift receipt for the day of my shower...so people wait till the last minute. I got a ton of stuff that wasn't on the registry though. Just sort through what you need and take the stuff back you don't.

  • I have my shower this upcoming Sunday and not a single thing has been marked off my registry. I have to admit I panicked a little this morning but because I'm young and so are my friends attending the shower I think I'm going to get more clothes, blankets, and cute things than the big items. I'm going to look at every gift as a blessing and pray those completion coupons come quick so I can buy the big ticket stuff I really want/need before she gets here Wink

This was our case too! Seems the sales associates aren't good at scanning the registry. I didn't start to see a lot of stuff going off our lists until 2-3 days before either. I wouldn't worry. You will get a lot of stuff that isn't on your registry that you will probably like just as much or better than other stuff. Like us, we didn't register for any bathtubs because we already had 2, and we got 2 more at our shower!!! CRAZY!!! So people will just buy random stuff sometimes, but that gives you a chance to take those items back to get what you really wanted. :) Have fun at your shower!

  • I got a lot of stuff off my registry BUT it was not marked off. I looked at my registry frequently because I would mark stuff off of the other as it was bought at other store.

  • I had almost 75% of my registry purchased the day before my shower. I know for most of our friends/family - it was payday.

Also, my Target registry - I got TONS of duplicates and they all had gift reciepts, so I'm not sure why they didn't come off my registry. I know this is a common problem with Target, so I wasn't surprised.

  • I agree with what others are saying in that lots of times have I seen items that were not taken off the registry and the person ended up with duplicates.

This was not what happened in my case though.  My shower was this weekend and we somehow ended up with 90% clothes, blankets, and towels.  While it was nice of everyone to get lots of cute clothes, I ended up with hardly anything off my registry!  We are ft parents so I'm not sure why everyone did this, bc they know we need everything!  I expected the big items to not be purchased, but I'm talking things like bottles, etc we got hardly any of.  One problem I noticed is that alot of registry items that I choose for good reviews were online only and not sold in stores.  Had I known this I would have picked easy items for my guests to buy.  I also registered for most items at BRU and most of my guests went to Target.  Many others just didn't purchase off my registry at all which really surprised me and many of them bought all newborn outfits!  Apparently everyone thinks my baby will be small, I hope we get some use out of them!

  • I had my shower this weekend, and found that the cashiers just didn't scan the baby registry.  I got a lot of gifts from the registry that weren't marked off.  Guests told me they made the cashier aware, they just weren't scanning the barcode I guess.

So I just went online and marked the stuff I got as purchased.

  • I've been trying not to stalk my registry but my curiosity takes over :-)
My shower is in 2 weeks and out of 40 something items only like 7 got purchased. Also I just have an amazon registry so a lot of my mom's friends might not be comfortable ordering things online.
I always bought off of registry for friends' showers but from my experience a lot of people do go and buy on their own because they get all the cute clothes and toys. Also a lot of people do last minute shopping as well.
Either way we get a 10% off discount for our registry to buy whatever guests don't get and worst case i'll just keep tags on the clothes and exchange for different sizes.

  • A few people bought stuff really, really early.  But most people have waited.  Our shower is on Saturday, and not a lot has been purchased for that.

  • We have an Amazon registry with a shower this Saturday.  Very few items have been purchased, and we've actually bought about half of what's 'gone' from the registry (only 16 items, with 154 not bought).  I don't think there's much time for people to order online, so expect most are going to grab random items from stores before they come over this weekend.

I thought my mom was mostly purchasing the items and sending them for the shower (she lives in MI and won't be there), so each time we got a box, I put the shipping box in the spare room to open at the shower.  But then for some reason, we opened a box that came recently and didn't recognize the name.  After a lot of confusion, I finally broke down and looked at the 'Thank You' list Amazon has and was really surprised at who had actually gotten us the items that were coming off the registry!  My mom had only gotten us a couple of bottles.  We had several friends get us the other items.  Still not everyone coming to the shower, but a greater variety than I had originally thought.  We have everything we 'need' for the baby, so the registry is just filled with books, toys and some Harry Potter onsies.  But I wouldn't mind getting those, too. ;)

Wait, Harry Potter onesies?  I have to check these out!
