Breastfeeding Books

Has anyone read any good books on breastfeeding?  I am looking for something basic and helpful.  I'm not crazy about the one I am reading now- Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding.  It just seems really long with a lot of unnecessary info.

Re: Breastfeeding Books

  • I have "The Essential Guide to Breastfeeding" and like it so far.

  • Not a book rec, but kellymom.com is a great resource.

  • The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding has been helpful to me. Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense by Ellyn Satter is also a good read but goes way beyond breastfeeding into nutrition, weaning, solids, etc. I just read a post from Lucie's List (lucieslist.com) that had diagrams and tips that were really quick and easy to read.

I have a breastfeeding class in early May that I'm excited to attend because I feel like having someone explain it to me and being able to ask questions will clear up some of my confusion. I also just learned that my hospital has a free breastfeeding group every week for new moms with the lactation consultant...something to look into as another resource.

Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers

Simple, easy to reference, nothing extra. And helpful.

Thank you all!  I was looking forward to attending a breastfeeding class, but since I'm on bed rest, that's not going to happen.  Can't wait to check out your suggestions.

  • The Womenly Art of BFing and Working Mom, Nursing Mom were the two books I read.  Both started out slow, but got better after the intro stuff.

  • I was on bedrest for 8 weeks of my pregnancy, so I can totally relate! I missed all the classes too :(

This is the book my friend recommended to me and I like it so far:

  • I agree with others on here who recommend "The womanly art of breastfeeding", my husband seems to enjoy it as well. (He's trying to be supportive and read what I read)

  • I highly recommend "So That's What They're For."  It's a quick/easy read & easy to reference should problems arise or you want clarification on something after LO gets here.  I read it with DS1 & am re-reading it now.

  • I personally liked Ina Mays Guide. I've also read le leche league. But you may not like the womanly art of breast feeding. Lots of history and back story. Try to go to group and some other suggestions too.
