Cloth Diapering

Solids and CDs

So, DS started solids this weekend. We are doing BLW so I am pretty sure he didn't really ingest anything. He had one poopy diaper afterwards but I didn't see any chunks of food. I was just wondering when I need to start spraying the diaper before I wash it?

  • you will notice a big change in consistency... more peanut butter sticky.

  • With BLW, you'll see the chunks. 6 months later, we still don't get the consistency change all the time. It depends a lot how quickly your baby takes to eating larger portions.

My sprayer has been a lifesaver.

  • I sprayed pretty much from the time I started offering foods, even though he wasn't ingesting much.  I figured why not start now to get the hang of it?!...I was too worried I wouldn't *really* be able to tell.  I have definitely noticed a difference, but at the same time, it wasn't so obviously *this is it* that I was/will be comfortable with waiting.  I guess my point is that I'll start spraying the next one's poop from the start of solids introduction too.  Maybe I'm dense, but it wasn't obvious enough for me.

  • we started spraying when he was offered solids - right around 6 months old.  the consistency changed and it was more solid, different colors, and definitely chunkier (to clarify:  not chunky like 3D chunks of vegetables in the diaper.... just not that mustard runny consistency it had always been).
  • I absolutely got out exactly what we put in. Visible pieces of sweet potato, cucumber peels. etc. BLW is a diaper adventure.
