1. Started a tutoring job at an inner city high school. Thought it would be easy and fun because I am an 8 year veteran of teaching at-risk kids and have a super high classroom success rate and am great at building relationships with teenagers.
2. Was told I have to stand the entire time in every class, which added up to 5 hours today.
3. Watched as 30 kids talked over a teacher while texting and listening to music. There was nothing I could help them with or tutor them on, as they did not have any work to do, because the teacher talked at them for the whole time without giving them any group, partner, or independent work.
4. Tutoring partner quit at the end of the first day.
5. Came home to find that husband had done nothing on the to-do list I left for him.
6. Stabbed husband in the eye with a rusty spoon.

That's a crappy day! You should have a glass of wine. Oh wait...
Well - here, you can at least pretend...
Sounds like that teacher needs A) Better classroom management skills and
A course on effective teaching strategies.
Both. All of this. I felt so badly. I wanted to hug her and then sit her down and say, "This can't keep happening. Here is what needs to happen."
Her reasoning was that because the school is paying us to be there, even if there is nothing to do, we need to look like there is. I get it, but maaaaaan my feet hurt. :-)
I'd show up in a wheelchair once you hit about 6 months.
Sorry you have to deal with all of it, but I hope you can help initiate some order...
This, lol. I was going to say, can you suggest actually doing work instead of just pretending to do work? Win win situation right there.
Sorry you had a rough day lady!
Ha, I would LOVE to do work! I was born to work! Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better.
