Success after IF

I'm in baby name he11

DH and I had agreed on Jude and Rhys months ago...I've made name letters for their room and gotten things embroidered and now he thinks Rhys looks like it should be pronounced rice...mind you he picked the name because he didn't want his son confused with a girl. Is it that hard to pronounce? Should we go back to the drawing board or do I just put my foot down? Ugh, so annoying.

Re: I'm in baby name he11

  • Oh, no. Is he suggesting a different spelling or a different name altogether? I tend to say hear him out, but I'm also here in name hell with no agreement at 36 weeks. So I'm probably a bad one to give advice...
After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • It's pronounced Reese, right? I don't think it looks like Rice. And even if someone calls him that who cares? You correct them. I have to correct people on my son's name too. And mine as well, which is not complicated at all. My name is Kristin. I get called Kristine all the time, and sometimes Kirsten. It really depends on peoples first languages a lot on what I get called. Same goes w.ith my son's name, Malachi (h is silent).

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • I think its natural to question your name choices at the big day looms ahead.  I loved the name Ethan since college and found myself questioning it towards the end.  Give him time and see if his feelings change.

  • I would try the crying method :)  But then again that is not working for me.  We are also in name hell.  I am stuck and so is he too bad they are on different names.  Good luck!

Different spelling but I won't budge on the spelling because a) he was adamant about not using the "girls" spelling and b) I don't want a teacher to confuse him for a girl and with the traditional Welsh spelling, I doubt he'll be confused for a girl when going down a class roster. I typically don't like unisex names for this reason but we had such a hard time coming up with names we agreed on.

  • So sorry - I would be frustrated too. However I am not sure you want to put your foot down on this one. I would ask or offer alternatives and give it time. Hang in there.

His alternatives are Logan and Lachlan...our last name starts with L and ends in Land :) Oh and for fun he tossed in wolverine. I'm secretly hoping the 20 u/s we've had are wrong and there's 1 girl in there because we are set for girls names :/

  • They are two great names.  I will say that I had no idea how to pronounce Rhys until it kept coming up on the baby name boards (I thought it was pronounced like the last name Reyes).   If that is a big concern for you it's something to think about.  My husband thought it was pronounced like Ree-s (more than one Ree)

However I think the name is becoming more and more popular and over time the few of us left without a clue will start fading away.

Knowing your last name, I would say Logan would sound better over Lachlan with it!

  • Chiming back in to say I think Rhys "matches" Graeme better than Reese, and that I don't think Rhys is hard to pronounce. That said, I think Logan would be really cute, too! Good luck resolving this!

FYI he admitted he like Logan because it's Wolverine's name :)

  • Uh how frustrating!  I have to admit until you clarified, I thought it was pronounced Riss....not rice, or reese.

BUT rarely anyone really sees your name printed.  When you introduce yourself to someone you say your name outloud.  Once you tell the teacher how to say it, they will say it correctly I am sure.

We didn't have an agreement on the spelling of Penny's middle name until after she was born.

Tell your hubby, it's a done deal.

Ugh, I really didn't want to see this! I am really frustrated with girls taking over boys names! It has ruined my favorite names of all time. OK, vent over.

I know! I felt bad typing it, but wanted you to know.
