I ordered my uhaul truck for our big move over a month ago. So here I am blissfully packed and ready to move (even with my 18mo old unpacking as I went lol) and I get a call from them 6 days before my move is supposed to take place saying sorry the nearest truck we can get, you will have to pick up 50 miles away (after they said the farthest I would have to go would be 10 miles (liars) I of course pregnant and hormonal was like no way!!!! I called and was supposed to recieve a call back from a manager by 5pm that day and after 48 hours had passed still nothing. I called and was told there were no managers avalible they left for the day (after being nice for so long I got mad ) I was told we cant do anything so too bad, basically. Needless to say I booked a truck with budget and they were great even upgraded me to the bigger truck at no charge!!! sorry end vent I just can't believe a company would have such horrible customer service in this economy. Thanks for listening!! End Vent!!
Re: U-haul Nightmare vent!!!
I think I would have flipped my lid! Those truck companies are normally so not understanding, I'm glad Budget stepped up.
It would be ridiculous to think you'd drive 50 miles out of the way, then PAY for the mileage just to get back to where you need to be! No thanks U-Haul! I think I'd complain to the home company after you get settled in your new home. I hope the rest of the move goes well!
Been there!!!!
Tell them you want a free upgrade (if it's available)! If they don't give it to you work the chain of command! That's INSANE!!!!
Personally I had to fight with them for 6 hours on the phone the DAY OF the move. Worst part, it wasn't even for me, it was for my BIL. But that's a whole different story...UGH!!! Oh and make sure you are talking to your LOCAL store not some cooperate place 1000000 miles away! That was another hassle I had to deal with. The local store was MUCH more accommodating.
I tried to get someone a the corp. office but they werent much help I plan on writing letters to the CEO and VP of customer service once we are settled. I could have really flipped my lid if DH wasnt like calm down relax you dont want to get stressed. Who does that though 6 days before a move over state lines!!! I was talking to my local region office they had no upgrade and didnt really seem to care.
Thanks ladies!!!
I started out working with the local store but they said it was our of there hands and up to the regional office to schedule the truck/move dates ect.
Just lurking over here from Sept, but I had a very similar issue with U-Haul when I moved last summer. I reserved the truck a month in advance and got a call the DAY BEFORE the move saying that they didn't have the truck and we could either get two pull behind trailers (not going to work for us), or drive 3 hours to the nearest bigger city to get one. We ended up having to have family that was in that area pick up the truck for us and drive it the three hours to our location. Not only that, we only got credit for the extra mileage and had to pay for the fuel to drive from point A to our location at point B, and then for the drive to our final destination.
I called the corporate office afterwards to file a complaint, but all they would refund me was $50. I was pretty pissed that we were forced to spend an extra couple hundred dollars in fuel overall just to get the truck to where it should have been in the first place!
We will be going with Budget next time around.
We had a very similar situation with U-Haul when we moved two hours away last summer. Except...I called to verify two days before our move, and they said they didn't have any trucks. A town about an hour away had flooded, so all of their trucks were rented (even though I had made reservations three months prior). People were renting trucks to store their belongings, and weren't returning them until all of the flooding was done.
Fortunately, I raised enough heck, and they managed to get me our two trucks. We will NEVER do business with them again.
Thanks so much for support, I did a few review searches online and found 540 of 700 were all bad reviews (1 star) most refering to them not fufilling there obligation. I should have read more reviews prior to ordering the truck but lesson learned.
