Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What time of the day do you bathe LO if LO isn't bathed daily?

I'm always reading that it is a good idea to include a bath in the bedtime routine, which makes sense to me, however, I feel like I already have SO much to do in the evening.  I'm a SAH, so I just give LO a bath when it's a good time for me, which is usually late morning before her big nap, or sometimes after her big nap.

ETA:  I should add that DD's bedtime is 7:30.  If she doesn't get a bath, I start start her bedtime routine at 7 by feeding her, reading her a story, and rocking her for a bit.

  • She gets a tub every third day unless there is a blow out of major spit up and we always do it after her 630 dinner before her 715 bed time story.

  • If I'm doing it, at bedtime. If my mom is sitting, or my mother in law, they might give him a bath for something to do.

I love bedtime baths! He gets all sleepy and smells so good after a bath, he's like a fuzzy little duckling. A 6 oz. bottle after, and he's out for 12 hours!

I have a three year old, and work full-time, so yes, it can be a lot. I just keep the bath short and sweet and it works.

  • Our DD gets a bath everyday at 7:30pm then she gets a massage with lotion and into her pj's then its bedtime with a bottle. She's sound asleep no later than 8:15 everyday. We've followed this routine since her umbilical cord fell off. Occasionally she will get a bath earlier or later depending on if we are otherwise engaged and unable to, but she is a crazy woman if we break her routine.

  • FWIW, I don't think that having a bath as part of the routine is necessary, per se. I think it is more ANY routine- you doing the bath time when it works for YOU is so important as a SAHM. DS takes showers with me (he hates baths) when DH is home in the morning (he gets one every 2-3 days.)

Instead of a bath to relax him in the evening, we do a nightly massage with Calendula/Lavender lotion, and it relaxes him completely. I think any routine that you do will help LO fall asleep- they quickly associate "sleep cues" with going to bed so whatever those are for you guys (whether it is a story, cuddling, etc), your LO will respond to.

For the most part, DD is pretty easy to put to bed at night.  I've just been feeling lately like I should be giving her bath at night.  Why, I don't know.

  • I do not get off work until 430p so we usually get home about 530pm bathtime follow some time after that. DD is a good sleeper so she sleeps well after a bath or just getting wiped off.

  • LO gets washed 1-2 times a week. She gets a bath once on the weekend in the middle of the day if she's lucky. Most of the time she gets a shower either sat or sun morning, and one tues/wed morning when I'm getting ready for work. I do not have the time nor the energy to give LO a bath everyday.

We don't really have a bed time routine and LO goes to bed fine and STTN. Somewhere between 7 and 8pm she rubs her eyes so I make bottle and give it to her. Lately she won't fall asleep on the bottle anymore so I'll rock her to sleep.

  • She gets a bath every other day at 6:00 as the start of bedtime. If it's not a bath night, she just goes straight to jammies. I keep baths really short. Just long enough to get her clean.

  • Weeknights I bathe DS every night if not every other night. It makes bedtime routine go by so much faster. On weekends, I normally bathe him after his first morning bottle.

This may sound weird, but how do you shower with your LO. I've heard of people doing this, but never knew how I guess?

  • I think you should stick to what works for you and your LO. I am also a SAHM and my LO gets her bath every three days when she wakes up in the morning.  Her bedtime routine starts with a warm cloth wipe down, lotion, pjs,a book, and nursing.  This has always worked for her.
  • I work, so my time is limited to give a bath so on bath nights (every 3rd day usually) she gets on as part of the bedtime routine.  It usually goes: eat, bath, diaper, PJs, bed. (sometimes the eating goes after PJs instead - just depends on the night).  It all takes 30 minutes.  She's usually asleep around 7/7:15

  • In the evenings, we shoot for every other day.  It's the only time I have to do it.  I'm gone for work about 10 hours a day so some weeks I'm lucky to have time bathe myself every other day.  Maybe it's good for a bedtime routine but nothing puts DD to sleep like a walk in the jogging stroller, bath or not.  MIL bathes her during the day sometimes.  I don't think it matters at all.
