Infertility

new and a question

My husband has a low sperm count (16 million) and I ovulate late.  My doctor wants to put me on 50 mg of clomid for three cycles to help me ovulate better.  I have read that you should be monitored while on this drug but she never mentioned anything about that.  Has anyone been on Clomid without being monitored by their doctor?

Re: new and a question

  • I was unmonitored on this cycle of clomid because my doc knows how my body reacts to it (I asked if I could be unmonitored since we are 100% OOP) but for my 3 previous rounds of clomid and 2 previous rounds of femara, I was monitored.

  • I did 3 rounds of clomid unmonitored. My RE said it was okay because I was only on 50mg. But once we added a trigger I was closely watched.

And welcome!!! I hope your stay is very short.

  • I'm also going to start Clomid for the first time and since our insurance doesn't cover fertility treatments, my doctor agreed to let me do one cycle unmonitored.

  • Welcome.  I did several unmonitored cycles with Clomid before we moved on to IUI with injectibles.  Good luck.

  • Plenty of people take Clomid unmonitored, and most are fine. But IMO I'd err on the side of caution and request it from your dr. I'd rather you be monitored and head off any complications you may miss if you didn't have any monitoring at all.
