Cloth Diapering

Sunning in the winter?

Hey ladies -

Our first LO is due in December and I was wondering if anyone had a process for sunning diapers in the winter. I live in Wisconsin and it's cold about 11 months out of the year (slight exaggeration - but if you live here you'll most likely agree with me lol)

I was wondering if I had DH build me a little clothes line in front of our patio window, if that would work as well as hanging them outside?

Re: Sunning in the winter?

  • Sunning in winter works just like sunning in summer, except that you'll have to warm up your diapers when they come inside. :oD

Sunning them in front of a window will work *if* you do not have energy efficient windows with UV blockage. Otherwise, it won't do any good.

  • You can also sun diapers on the dashboard of your car.  It works pretty well.

FWIW, you can sun in the cold as long as there is direct sunlight.  Your diapers may freeze, but they will be okay.  Remember UV rays occur year round, and that is what gets stains out- not heat.  It just may take longer, or you might need to sun them twice to fully remove the stain.

  • Great! Thanks for the advice :)

The only thing I was worried about was the freezing part - but I'm all for tossing them in the dryer for a while to soften them up!
