So, I know a lot of moms think nursing pillows are a waste of money, but I would like to try one for myself. Have any of you moms used either of these pillows for nursing? I will be using a poang rocker from Ikea and it's not quite as comfy as a traditional glider, so I figure a nursing pillow may help. I only want to put one on my registry. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Re: STMs: Boppy vs. My Brest Friend nursing pillow?
I would never call a nursing pillow a waste of money! I have two Boppy pillows because I used them so much with both DD and DS. I kept one upstairs and one downstairs, wanted to be able to take one to travel with and have a spare at home in case we forgot to bring the other one home, etc. The Boppy was so helpful those first several weeks for sure! It has a great snug fit to my body (I'm a size 6-8 pre-pregnancy), and offered my arms support during exhausting night time feedings. We also used it as a tummy time pillow or "connect" the two pillows to give them a "lounger" type spot (Note: they are NOT to be used as a sleeping location for infants, though DD and DS use them sometimes now for naps as they are much older and not at risk for suffocating). And be sure to get washable/removable covers!
I never tried out the My Breast Friend pillow, though I have heard wonderful reviews about it. I think if we hadn't started out with the Boppy, there's a good chance I would have bought the MBF pillow and loved it too. The pros to it seem to be that since it straps on to you, moving around while nursing is a breeze. With the Boppy, moving around is possible but a bit trickier.

I've had the boppy for both of mine so far. Absolutely LOVE it, it is definately one of my essentials. My mom even has an extra she keeps at her house for when we visit. For sure get at least one washable cover for it, we have 2 and are getting a couple more for this time around.
The awesome thing abotu the boppy is that it can be used as they get older as well, tummy time propped up on it, naps, my DD uses it for relaxing on the couch sometimes too.
Oh and i'm a size 14-16 pre preg and i've never had a complaint about it not going around me enough.
I have both the boppy and mybreastfriend and I am also a lactation consultant. I prefer the boppy personally but I have had plenty of women prefer the mybreastfriend. For me I didn't like having to unstrap the breastfriend every time I finished a feed and it is much firmer (something I didn't like, but can't place why).
My best recommendation, borrow both from friends if you can, see what you like, then buy what you like. You can also ask the hospital if they have them to try. I have hospital grade plastic ones of both for patients to use. Also La leche league meeting leaders generally have them for moms to try.
If none of these is an option for you, buy the boppy first, if you like it, use it, if not, it has other uses at least (propping baby for the first several months). The mybreastfriend is only good for breastfeeding.
GL!
This exactly. I used our boppy every day until DS weaned at 1. I also second having many covers. DS spit up all over it all the time and once he even had a diaper blow out all over it Straight up Shitpacolypse all over it. We have 3 covers for ours. lol
My Breast Friend! We actually registered for (and received) a Boppy, but I hated it. It didn't really offer enough support for DS (he was a big baby).
DS's pedi had a MBF & every time I was in there, I'd use that. It was awesome. I love that it's super supportive (both for mom & for baby).
I'll be getting a MBF this time around & using the Boppy for tummy time/other stuff besides BFing.

I'm not a STM but i've read a lot of STMs recommend them both for different things so planning on getting both.
This. I ended up prefering a couple pillows instead of the boppy since I was able to situate them a little better. The hold that gave me the most control over the baby's head and therefore a better latch made the Boppy kind of worthless (he was on the side, feet behind and my arm was wrapped around him with his head in my hand). A pillow on my side was really the most helpful during that time.

I have two Boppys, one to keep in the nursery, and the other in the living room on the couch. I thought they were absolutely essential the first few months. They are now in DS1's closet, he loves to lay on them while reading books.
I strongly recommend getting the waterproof cover to go under your pretty cover. The pillow can get gross in a hurry (diaper explosions, spit up, leaky boobs, etc) and putting the whole thing in the wash is a pain. I had 4 pretty covers (courtesy of my handy-at-sewing mom) and two were always in the laundry.
I didn't bring it to the hospital when I had DS1, but wish that I had. I will definitely be bringing mine with me for this DS.
My goal was no special pillows and to just use what we had. I ended up having major back problems after the delivery, so I started borrowing anything I could from friends to find something that would help me continue to BF despite my issues. For me, MBF was amazing. I had to use it plus other pillows, but it was hugely helpful. The Boppy didn't fit around me right, wasn't as supportive, etc.
