While I'm not glad at all that she got pneumonia, I am glad that it brought another underlying problem to the surface! She has been coughing since Thanksgiving. All the time. When she runs, when she laughs, all the freaking time. I've had her at the doctor's office five times with two different doctors who tried all sorts of things - finally deciding she had allergies, and put her on Claritin. Which worked, it keeps her from coughing at night, but the problem still exists when she's running - she can't stop coughing.
The on call doctor saw us yesterday about the pneumonia; turns out she has viral pneumonia. They took an x-ray so we'd know for sure. She's doing much better today, actually EATING (she hasn't eaten since Wednesday) and drinking tons of water and juice. I am so happy. During the course of talking to the on call doctor, she looked at her file and listened to my worry about DD's coughing prior to the pneumonia. She told me she thinks she may have asthma, and ordered an inhaler.
We've done the inhaler twice in the last 24 hours (that thing is EXPENSIVE), and already have seen improvement with DD's violent coughing fits. I can't believe a doctor finally diagnosed her with asthma. I've had a feeling all along that was it but every time I brought it up it got pushed aside. It feels so good to have a solution now! Though I hate that she has asthma. At least we know.
Pneumonia is scary. Hopefully we're over the worst of it. But DD looked just awful. Her coloring was off, she was pretty much a zombie, wouldn't talk, eat... it killed me. This morning she is much more improved. There is no treatment for viral pneumonia, just lots of rest and fluids. Hopefully by next week she'll be back to her normal goofy self
Re: DD's pneumonia
Oh, that's so awesome! I hope that's the case here too. My entire mother's side has asthma, I'm surprised I don't have it. I'm just so glad to have a diagnosis, even if that's what it ended up being!
