With my husband deploying soon and him being on a sub with almost zero communication for 4 months, I wanted to pick names before he left. We also basically didn't like any of the same names at the beginning. :-)
For the past few weeks, we've been really digging Sydney for a girl but still could not think of a boys name. Today we narrowed it down to Alex and Drew I think we just decided that we both really like Drew.
I'm sorry if this is an AW post but I'm kinda/really excited and we aren't telling friends/family until the little babe is born.
Did anyone else have a hard time coming up with boys names?!
Re: So I think we picked names...
No you're not! If it were not for the upcoming deployment, I guarantee we'd still be at square one!
The ONLY thing I worry about with the name Sydney is that we are Penguin fans and Sidney Crosby is the star on the team. I've like the name since I was 7 and my brother was born. He was going to be Sydney if a girl.
I told H that if he even thinks of telling people we named her (if it's a girl) after Sidney Crosby, I'll be pissed! :-)
I think boy names are SO much harder!!!
Congrats on deciding!
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
The only name my husband has suggested for a boy is Sidney, for this exact reason! I actually don't mind it, but I had to explain to him that most people use it now as a girl's name. He didn't understand!
Suffice to say it didn't make our short list, however I agree with PP's, boys names have been much harder for us. We settled on a girl pretty quickly.

I do like the name Sidney for a boy though too. However, our dog is named Geno after Evgeni Malkin so I don't want to be the family that has Geno and Sid boys. Haha.
We are having a harder time coming up with a boy name because my DH is set on one name and will not consider any others! The name is okay but not my first choice. I think we will go with that name, but have a really hard time if we need a second boy name.
DH doesn't care as much about girl names, to they are easier.

We are also having a really hard time coming up with a boy name, mostly because we have 5 dogs plus ourselves, so 7 names already(not including 2 cats and my horse) and for the 7 of us no one has the same initial, and that's how I would like to keep it.
Which throws out EVERY SINGLE name I've ever liked boy wise!!LOL
However we already have our girl name picked out(first and middle) which is funny as I can never come up with a good name for any female pets I've had!Lol
We finally came up with 2 a couple nights ago, but don't know if they will stick as they don't sound all that great with the middle name(husband's past down from his dad, and his Dad's dad.)
So I think we will just put it on pause, wait till we see the midwife again at around 16-17 weeks and go from there!!LOL
This was us! Had it narrowed down but waited until we saw him to see which one fit best.
Hey, my DH was on the USS Virginia!! What sub is your husband on??
That's great that you decided on names already. Boy names were the hardest for DH and I too. We started seriously talking names over a year ago with my first pregnancy. Over last year we have decided on 1 boy's and 1 girl's name. We are hoping our babies are a boy and a girl. If we have 2 of each, we'll be back to the drawing board and let me tell you, DH is a hard sell on the names I like best.
And we are not telling anyone our names until the babies arrive either. I love that this will be our little secret up until the end.
The first time around, boy names were impossible, but the girl name was easy. Of course we ended up with a boy! This time, we'll still have a lot of trouble if it's another boy, but if we have a girl, we're set. We still want to use the same name we liked when I was pregnant the first time. Naturally, I'm hoping for a girl so we don't even have to cross that bridge!
P.S. Good luck with this deployment. I understand how difficult it is being pregnant with DH gone. DH was deployed 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant with DS and was gone for 6 months- he came back when I was about 32 weeks. For pretty much the first 2 months, they were on email silence so I didn't hear from him at all. Wishing you well!
ETA: OP - congrats on deciding on your names! It's definitely not an easy decision.
