How long from first steps to walking?

Ds has some gross motor delays but has been making amazing progress and the other day in PT he took his first steps and went about 6 feet on his own! Of course at home he hasn't really done it yet again, but he tends to take a bit more time with physical milestones anyway. Still, I'm curious how long it was from when your LO started taking a few steps between things to really walking on their own. Thanks!

4-6 weeks, I think it depends on if they have been crawling for a while, they take a little longer to be convinced that walking is easier, faster and also to gain confidence. You can encourage, him. My friend's 14 month old only walks when DD is around bc shes doing it.

  • I don't really remember. I think it was only like 2 weeks.
  • I'd also say it took about 4-6 weeks before he was comfortable and walking all around.

  • My DD took her first steps about 3 1/2 weeks ago and began walking 2 weeks ago.  She tried and tried over the course of a week and finally just got it.  Now she walks everywhere.

DD was taking a lot of steps at 8 months and started walking at 10 months.
  • Maybe a couple of weeks? I cheated some. To get LO to walk we would bribe him with electronics (We'd stand him up on one side of the room and then hold our phone out to him on the other side so he would walk to it). Also, our grocery store has those kid carts and he would hold on and we would pull it around so he would walk like that. I think the practice helped him do it on his own.

  • It took DS 3 weeks to go from steps to full blown walking, but he was only 10.5 months old.

DD went from steps to full blown walking in 2 days, but she was 14 months old.

  • 1 month for us.  first steps at 9.5 months and full blow walking at 10.5 months

  • DD1 took about 6 weeks. DD2 took about 4 weeks; she's always been more physical than her sister at the same age. She was jumping (both feet off the ground) at 18 months. DD1 was 2 years.

  • 3-4 weeks. DD took her first steps a little after she turned 11 months and just after her 1st bday she was a full time walker.

She started full blown running pretty quickly too.

  • She took her first steps at 8 months and  she was running in about 2 weeks, but shes super nosey and busy.
  • Mine went from taking two wobbly steps to full fledged walking in about 2.5 weeks, but he was weird about it. He did the wobble steps then falling for the full 2.5 weeks, then woke up one day and could walk perfectly fine. Then he was running two days later. :/
