to the regular toilet? I'm trying to transition DD from her little potty seat to just sitting on the toilet. How do you have your LO sit, and how did you teach them to get up without falling in?
We've never had a potty chair. We have always just used the toilet ring. I would buy one (a lot have handles to hold on to) - and they make the hole smaller so little butts do not fall in. Honestly, my 4 year old still uses it a lot because it is hard to manage balancing on the toilet, holding your dress up (she insists to always wear dresses) and wiping.
Sorry, that's what I meant. We have the toilet ring as well. She can get up there by herself no problem, but if we're anywhere else but her bathroom I"m not sure how to tell her to sit. Right now I'm just perching her on the edge and letting her hang on to me for balance.
I carry a fold-up potty seat in my bag for public restrooms. It came with a washable bag. I just wipe it up with a wet wipe when we are finished. I would prefer her not to touch the toilet seat with her hands. If we forget the seat, I will wipe off the toilet and let her hold onto me.
The removable toilet rings are a PITA especially in a bathroom that everyone uses. You have to keep moving that thing on and off the potty and sometimes pee gets on the underside and drips off. It's just nasty.

We also carry a potty seat in our diaper bag. If we don't have it now she will sit forward on the seat and hold onto me. But I would rather her feel comfortable and actually go than try to hold it because she feels like she's going to fall in.
Re: How did you transition from the potty seat
Go to your local hardware store and look for the toilet seats that have a children's ring inside them.
