  We just used clear fishing line with a white thumbtack in the ceiling.  I wasn't worried about lighting or anything, we have 4 different sizes hanging at different lengths.

  
  After 2+ years and multiple treatment cycles,
  including an IVF vacation in Costa Rica/Panama,
  IVF #2 brought us our miracle baby!
  

  Surprise!  Baby Boy is on the way!

  I've used little white hooks you just screw in by hand and tied the fishing line to it.  You can get them anywhere, including Walmart.

  If you are looking to put the paper lantern as a permanent fixture, you can check out my blog post on how we assembled ours.  It was driving me crazy trying to figure out how to hang on without an ugly cord hanging down the wall.  Hope it helps
